    President of GKN Automotive China

Last week, GKN Automotive executive team visited our China JV, SDS. During the visit, we toured the Kangqiao plant, reviewed the business report presented by the SDS team, and, for the first time since the JV was established, held a town hall at SDS. During the town hall, SDS General Manager, Mr. Qian Xiangyang, delivered a warm welcome speech, followed by insightful updates from the GKN Automotive executive team on the latest global strategy, priorities, and business status. The team also expressed sincere appreciation for the remarkable achievements and dedication of SDS team. The town hall reinforced GKN Automotive’s strong commitment to China and provided an excellent opportunity for our JV colleagues to engage directly with GKN Automotive’s top management. The open communication and recognition from GKN leadership greatly motivated our Chinese colleagues.

Since the launch of our "Love the Earth" programme in 2020, colleagues at our Rayong site in Thailand have collected and recycled over 30,000 plastic bottles or 550kg of plastic for reuse in the local community. In 2025, the team has already collected over 7,000 bottles, or 127KG of plastic, which will be used to create recycled material for robes and donated to local temples within the community. On #GlobalRecyclingDay, we are celebrating the work our sites are coordinating around the world as part of our commitment to improve waste disposal. We are proud to have diverted 98% of our waste materials away from landfill in 2024 and we are committed to ensuring that we reach 100% by 2030.  Initiatives like our Rayong recycling programme are key to helping us drive a cleaner, more sustainable world. Well done to the team for its efforts!

  • Our new wheel side RX8 joint, combined with our new RDO8 joint, is one of our latest sideshafts to be designed to meet the changing demands of rear-wheel drive battery electric vehicles (BEVs). As the industry continues to develop, our powertrain agnostic sideshafts continually undergo innovation to remain as efficient as possible across different propulsion-type vehicles. Providing greater #efficiency and strength, with compact boot solutions and flexible plunge capacity, this advanced sideshaft has been designed to meet our customers' strict sustainability and packaging requirements.  Find out more about our innovative sideshaft #technology here: https://lnkd.in/gxG2Vd8

  • At the recent Toyota Global Supplier Event held in Tokyo, our Brazilian sites were honoured with a Regional Contribution Award for their outstanding reliability and quality performance. Despite facing major challenges caused by flooding in Porto Alegre and Charqueadas cities, our teams were able to maintain supply continuity throughout this extremely difficult period. This was also thanks to the support of our global network, with several plants - including Celaya, Vigo, Rayong, and Oragadam - supporting the recovery plan. Toyota's recognition was particularly special this year, as our Director of Operations in Brazil, José Ignacio Blanco, was personally invited to attend the event along with our Chief Commercial Officer, Mark Gabriel. With close to 500 suppliers and 880 delegates attending the conference, the event - led by Toyota CEO Koji Sato - reinforced the power of partnership in shaping the future of mobility. We believe collaboration is the key to mutual success and are proud to see our commitment to excellence recognised at a global event. Thanks go to all our teams and partners for your ongoing dedication and professionalism.

  • Our Director of Sustainability, Tom Salisbury, recently joined a panel of industry experts at Sustainability LIVE: Net Zero, where he drew on his expertise and experience at GKN Automotive to reinforce the importance of clear, actionable insights for businesses to reduce their carbon emissions.   At GKN Automotive, sustainability is at the heart of our business strategy and corporate purpose. We've taken significant steps, including achieving SBTi approval on our 2045 net zero target, and signing our first VPPA in 2024 to help decarbonise our electricity usage.   Driving measurable progress in #sustainability is a challenge we take seriously throughout our organisation, and events like these provide a valuable opportunity to engage with the wider sustainability community, as we pursue a cleaner, more sustainable world.   #SUSLIVE #NetZero

  • Today, we celebrate World Energy Efficiency Day, which is designed to raise awareness around the critical role energy efficiency plays in reaching a climate neutral future. As we continue on our own journey to reach net zero by 2045, continuously improving energy efficiency across our manufacturing operations is vital.    In 2024, our machining, assembly and all-wheel drive plants in Rayong, Thailand, installed a new 110 kW highly efficient air compressor, replacing 330kW worth of redundant capacities. This new air compressor, alongside an integrated smart compressor control system, enables Rayong to track and optimise its energy use.    As a result, our team in Thailand is able to save over 886 000 kWh worth of electricity and over 363 tonnes of CO2 annually.

  • Meet José Nuno Fernandes, Accounting Manager at our site in Porto, Portugal. Having worked at GKN Automotive for more than four years, José emphasises the importance of working in a collaborative and diverse team, built on a culture of trust and shared success. With a strong sense of opportunity ahead, José continues to focus on his own development to advance to a global role. See below for five key insights from José about his role:

  • Our plant in Olesnica, Poland, has been operating a ‘Little First Aiders’ programme for over 10 years, using the skills and experience of our 114 trained first aiders to teach children from the local community how to deliver first aid and respond to accidents. In 2024, we are proud to report that the team delivered training to 2,150 children from the Olesnica area, equipping them with the real-world skills needed to make a difference. At GKN Automotive, we are committed to delivering charitable partnerships across 100% of our global sites in 2025 and this is just one example of how we continue to actively engage with and support the communities in which we operate. Congratulations to the Olesnica team!

  • Designed for front- and all-wheel drive applications, our SX6 Fixed Joint Countertrack™ technology uses opposing s-shaped tracks for optimum efficiency and packaging. It combines these with a specific 6-ball track profile in a longitudinal direction to allow articulation angles of up to 47 degrees. Compared with conventional Rzeppa-type joints, our Fixed Joint Countertrack™ design reduces losses by up to 60%, while delivering a reduction in weight.
