With The Breakfast Club achieving record figures in the past 10 years, our very own Gabriel Bray shares his insights on how serving breakfast can be a significant opportunity for business growth. "It's more than just adding a breakfast menu, but rather adding a new day part to your business, which while bringing complications, such as new opening hours and operational complexities, is an opportunity to boost revenue." Aldi is hitting the headlines in the newspapers again after duplicating another brand! Our founder, Amir Mousavi, shares his opinion on Aldi's Harvest Morn Protein Granola rebrand, explaining the reasons behind the product changes and the strategy at play. "Reducing protein in the cereal will have saved Aldi money, but their product still contains more or the same amount of protein as Fuel does, and that's their goal. What's important to them is that they have benchmarked the rival product - so they can target its customers." Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/dGGdpF2C #GFS #goodfoodstudio #foodconsultant

That's a wrap! Last Thursday was the final episode of the 'Supermarket Own Brands' series. Amir Mousavi analysed the differences between Nutella and a supermarket own brand in terms of composition, ingredients, and pricing. “To take a closer look, I have a jar here that breaks down each individual ingredient, because along the main lines, they’re actually pretty much the same. They both consist, for the majority, of sugar, hazelnuts, cocoa powder, and palm oil as their main ingredients. I think people would be surprised to know that over 56% of the chocolate spread is actually just sugar, and cocoa would actually make up a very small amount of it. Fun fact: Nutella was actually invented after the Second World War due to shortages of chocolate. And it’s quite astonishing that it can taste so chocolatey given how much cocoa solids are actually in the jar.” Have you watched the series yet? Did you watch Channel 5's 'Supermarket Own Brands - The Big Taste Test' last Thursday? Our founder, Amir Mousavi, gave great insights on how supermarket own brands and superbrands compare price-wise. “In a tomato ketchup, you would find tomatoes, of course, spirit vinegar, sugar, salt, herbs and spices. The supermarket own brands follow suit with the addition of maize starch or cornflour. With the inclusion of the starch, we’re know we’re gonna have less tomatoes than the superbrand.” “One of the ways that supermarkets own labels make their ketchup cheaper is by starting off with less tomatoes by pureeing and concentrating to a triple concentrate, and the rest of the bottles is made up with water and thickened with maize starch. The superbrand uses up much more tomatoes and a natural thickener, pectin so that they don’t have to use the cornflour or maize starch” Don't miss today's episode at 8pm!
