This week, I was enjoying a Brick Lane curry with some friends and the topic of company benefits came up. We were each sharing what we like/dislike about each of our companies' offerings and everyone had something to say. As I talked through my opinions, I found myself feeling very grateful and humbled. 🌍 In celebration of #BlackHistoryMonth2024 and the theme "Reclaiming Narratives," our Unity Group members Neenu Santhosh, Khalid Iman and Jasmine Alexander have spotlighted two influential figures each who have shaped Black history in the UK: - Claudia Jones: Trinidadian-born activist who founded the Notting Hill Carnival, celebrating Caribbean culture and heritage. - Harry Edward: Born in Jamaica, he was the first Black athlete to represent Great Britain at the Olympics, breaking barriers in sports. - Katarina Johnson-Thompson: British heptathlete and two-time world champion, known for her remarkable achievements in athletics. - Stuart Hall: Jamaican-born British theorist whose work provided crucial insights into Black and minority communities in the UK. - Dr. Anne-Marie Imafidon: British Nigerian computer scientist named the most influential woman in tech in the UK, advocating for diversity in STEM. Idris Elba: Successful British actor and advocate against knife crime, known for his campaign "Don't Stab Your Future" with The Prince’s Trust. Their contributions remind us of the power of representation and the ongoing journey toward equality and social change.
