"Deity" - what does it mean? My favourite definition was "A deity or god is a supernatural being considered to be sacred and worthy of worship due to having authority over the universe, nature or human life." Still with me 😉 I'm proud, thrilled and shocked to have today been shortlisted for Digital Disruptors Deity of the Year for 2024 (though I'm certainly not worthy of 'worship' and I barely have control over my two daughters so I have little chance over the universe, nature or human life 😋 (For those still reading the award us for those 'who has had a “lifetime” impact on the digital accountancy space' and YES I am clearly old enough to have been nominated 😮 ) A true honour to be listed among some of the world's very best including Will Farnell (he's been changing the industry since I joined it), Gary Turner (the co-founder and former managing director of Xero) and some amazing familiar faces who we continue to look up to as being shining lights in the profession today that are Lucy Cohen, Jonathan Gaunt and Stuart Hurst among many others.

Representing Mazuma Accountants At Tennick Accountants we're very vocal about changing our lives, change the lives of those that interact with us and making the world a better place as a result. We recognise that we cannot do this alone though. Well today, we've taken our next step to do this. With us also being co-founders of R.E.P.R.E.S.E.N.T this has enabled us to do something huge alongside Mazuma Accountants. A little background first, at Tennick Accountants we are always looking to expand and recognise the struggles so many accountants face. We've looked after several to buy, but recognise not all are a good fit and that there are many more that are just wanting change rather than exit. Change might not be a way out in terms of retiring, but even just be a change in terms of a change of direction in terms of pushing on with advisory work. This was a trend we also recognised across in the US as part of our visit to Nashville with Xero last week. I've known Lucy Cohen and the team at Mazuma Accountants for a number of years and even referred businesses to them where they were seeking such change. Today, I'm proud to announce that R.E.P.R.E.S.E.N.T are partnering with Mazuma Accountants to not only help with filling resourcing requirements but also in helping more Accountants live and lead a better life. We said at Tennick Accountants and R.E.P.R.E.S.E.N.T we want to change the industry and change the world and this is further evidence of us doing this. England might not have brought the trophy home but the boys at Cramlington United who did yesterday. Their first trophy win and super proud for Tennick Accountants to be sponsors and huge credit to the boys and coaches Kristopher Clark and Marc Stewart. You can clearly see the togetherness across the group and how much this means to them all.

Smashed it! Super proud to hear that there is another double to celebrate. The East Northumberland Under 11 team have won the league and couple double which is a fantastic achievement. Next year they will be entering National competitions. Invest in the youth of today to provide a better tomorrow is very much a motto of Tennick Accountants

Here goes ... time to be more present but less I heard the fantastic Carl Reader speak at Accountex a few years back and it resonated with me when he said the only moment you can control is here and now. Ironically I'm on my way to another fantastic event with Xero for #xerocon2024 where I know Ash Gibson will shine in her moment. This post is off the back of an amazing time in Florida with my better half and amazing two girls where I was TRULY present. Not only did Mrs T and I celebrate 10 years of being married, but as a family we created lifelong memories and realised a dream I've had since wanting to be a parent and I thought this image captured the emotions behind this post perfectly. This post is the moment when Roy Disney was reflecting on helping realise his brothers dream Walt, after opening Walt Disney World and being overcome with emotion. Without prompt, Minnie Mouse sat beside him, held his hand, and comforted him. A true sense of support, love and everything that Disney was originally built on and a moment so valuable a statue was commissioned to capture it that today sits at the entrance to Main Street in the park. In order for me to create the memories we have as a family, I pretty much shut off from everything else around me. 👎 social media posts 👎 checking of emails 👎 checking of the news 👎 taking calls We have an amazing team at Tennick Accountants so I knew our clients were in amazing hands. Now I'm back, further changes are coming which will mean that I am more present but less. 🚉 have already committed to less travel so more time with the family aside from things I am committed already 📬 fewer but better posts across social media platforms 🫣 social media blackout on an evening and a complete phone blackout on an evening 🌱 90 minutes minimum uninterrupted work every weekday morning to get the most important work done 👨👩👧👧 work shut down 7.30 every evening A lot of the above will take time but I will be more present than ever for family, friends, the team, clients and all we support

It's all about timing. I do love an early start and today is no different. 3.30am start for a 6am flight to #London with the team at Clarity® HQ and my sidekicks that are Paul Miller BSc FCA and Sharon Baker FCCA 💜 We practice what we preach and very much see learning and business being a journey and not something where you should enjoy the journey and not just fixate on the destination. Buyers remorse 🤔 Was just having this conversation today which inspired this post. When we make a big decision, naturally we have a feel of excitement, but also one of fear. Changing your accountant can often feel like this and so many #businessowners will not change because of it My book of the month by Steven Bartlett sums this up beautifully

The business world is at risk of a slow death! Okay so maybe a little extreme but stick with me. Had an absolutely amazing chat with the fantastic John Knight this morning (evening in Australia) and we shared our thoughts about the business world. As a profession, the #accountancy industry has a DUTY to step forward and preserve and grow businesses for generations to come outside of doing year end accounts and tax returns. Now more than ever, #businessowners have access to social media influencers and so much advice around them and are acting on this alone rather than having better discussions with their accountants. The risks are HUGE and we must collectively step forward to fix this before it is too late as people chase quick success. "The competition is highest for average goals" 🚀Now we at Tennick Accountants always stress that #businessowners should seek to be the best version of themselves. We also regularly speak of helping them identify and realise their potential as nobody set out to be average 😉 did they? Yes this comes at a cost, as a potential client declared when calling up and saying we were "expensive". Expense too is relative though and we would prefer to approach this from an "affordability" perspective first then we get into a "value" conversation to see if the value we can add would surpass the fee we charge, that the company can afford. Recognise your value as a business owner, charge it and go and realise your potential! P.S. Time spent in business has to be made worthwhile so you have more occasions such as this I had over the weekend

We smashed it and some. We work closely with business owners at Tennick Accountants to establish what they NEED and WANT out of the business. Sometimes circumstances arise though that throw all of these plans out of the window such as covid. Well yesterday we completed the next stage of the turnaround for one client and in the process got the client nearly £14,000 in tax savings compared to what their tax bill would have been as a result of tax planning over the past 12 months. Huge credit to Lisa Lockhart and Grace Lacy for this one and I cannot wait to see the written up impact statement signed by us and the client. You never know what might be at the end of the rainbow 🌈 so choose your accountant carefully BOOM 💥
