Thanks to Fiona Gillilan, from the Community Learning and Development team of Aberdeen City Council who organised an information session on NRPF (No recourse to public funds) at Seaton Community Centre this morning. It was a pleasure to meet this group of graduates and look into how NRPF impacts our community together. At the No Recourse NE Partnership we offer free training on NRPF and, together with CLD, we are planning an online session soon, possibly in the evening so that more people can attend. nrnepartnership.org

As part of Grampian Regional Equality Council Ltd ‘s Hotel Rights Reps Project in partnership with JustRight Scotland , we hosted legal sessions on #immigration and #asylum to our local community. Thank you Andy Sirel for delivering such insightful and invaluable sessions. Everyone walked away feeling better informed and equipped to take control of their immigration and asylum seeking journey. #immigrationlaw #refugeesupport #activecitizenship #refugeeswelcome #grec #supportingcommunities #inclusivescotland
I shape thriving workplaces by tackling imposter syndrome, embracing diversity and building confident, resilient teams
Did you know that there are no immigration lawyers in Aberdeen or Aberdeenshire? (Happy to be corrected if you know anyone!) But I was delighted to welcome Andy Sirel, legal partner of JustRight Scotland to meet with groups of refugees and asylum seekers to talk to them about immigration law. Andy’s sessions were packed with valuable information. Immigration system in the UK is quite complex. These sessions helped the groups to understand the complexities. With this understanding comes something more important: giving people the confidence to take their next steps here in Scotland. As some of you know my role at the Grampian Regional Equality Council Ltd is related to supporting refugees to learn about life in Scotland, feel empowered to be part of their new community and become active citizens. Sessions like this one’s help A huge thank you to Andy and JustRight Scotland for your time, expertise, professionalism and compassion. I would also like to thank Tomás P. for helping me organise this event, to our incredible interpreters who tirelessly shared information and everyone who made these meetings go smoothly. #immigrationlaw #refugeesupport #activecitizenship #refugeeswelcome #grec #supportingcommunities #inclusivescotland Elahe Alavi

This is beautifully written, Nara Morrison GMBPsS PGDip! It truly was a wonderful and memorable evening. So proud of our amazing team. Wishing every one of you—our friends and community—a joyful winter holiday!
I shape thriving workplaces by tackling imposter syndrome, embracing diversity and building confident, resilient teams
It’s been a while since I attended a team Christmas party. 20 years precisely. Being self-employed means no team events (sad, right? ☹️) So I was really excited to go out with the team from Grampian Regional Equality Council Ltd. And it was a successful night. It wasn’t just about the good food (though there was plenty of that) It wasn’t just the endless laughter (there was a lot of that too). I looked around the room and I realised I was surrounded by people with shared values and incredible collective strength. It felt logical that the people who have travelled such different paths, ended up in this beautiful country, Scotland. As if it wasn’t good enough, they, no, WE also work together to make it home and and make it better. Most of us in the group come from different countries. Each of us in the group have our own stories of the past. Yet, here we are, in the present, united in a shared goal to build a better future in the country that became our home. I always say, it’s about ROOTS we come from and ROUTES that take us to our destinations. Definitely, a night to connect, to reflect and to celebrate 🎉🎄✨💃🕺🏻🍦 #GREC40Years #CommunityImpact #diversityandInclusion #SocialImpact #MakingADifference #christmas #RootsAndRoutes Maria Jose Pavez Larrea Ross Mackay Adriana Uribe Savneet Kaur Elahe Alavi Dr. Vivian Chiahua Tu Anne E. The Mental Health Foundation has released this video to share the personal stories of individuals seeking asylum in the UK. The term "people seeking asylum" can sometimes feel impersonal, allowing us to overlook the unique experiences and circumstances each person brings. True cultural awareness requires more than categorising or assuming we understand a "culture." Let’s remember to honour the individuality within each story. Watch "Our experiences of living in hotels as asylum seekers" short video here. https://lnkd.in/eDNtZs7r
