About us
Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust (GOSH) is a national centre of excellence in the provision of specialist children's health care, currently delivering the widest range of specialist care of any children's hospital in the UK. It aspires to offer outcomes for children in the top five in the world. The largest centre in the UK for children with heart or brain problems, and, with UCLH it is the largest centre in Europe for children with cancer. It is the only specialist Biomedical Research Centre for paediatrics, it works in partnership with the UCL Institute of Child Health (ICH), part of University College London, and together they form the largest paediatric research and teaching centre in the UK, and one of the largest in the world. The hospital at Great Ormond Street is the only exclusively specialist children's hospital in the UK. It does not have an Accident and Emergency department and largely only accepts specialist referrals from other hospitals and community services. The population of children served by the hospital is characterised by those with multiple disabilities and/or health problems and rare and congenital (present at birth) conditions.

Check out some of the wonderful photos taken by Rankin from the Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity's brilliant new School Photo Day, providing families at GOSH with lovely memories and keepsakes.
Introducing our first ever School Photo Day, taken by world-renowned photographer, Rankin. Every child deserves to have important milestones captured and celebrated. But children in hospital often miss out on these special moments, including their yearly school photo. So we decided to change this. Our School Photo Day has helped provide families at GOSH with new memories and a keepsake to fill any missing gaps on the wall. Swipe to see Rankin's portraits of Julian, Arthur, Ellerie, Oba and Eamonn.

We’re pleased to share that a baby boy born with a rare condition has become the first in the world to be treated with a new, potentially lifechanging, investigational gene therapy on a clinical trial at GOSH. 14-month-old Tomas was diagnosed with a rare genetic condition which causes ammonia to build up in the blood. This causes serious side effects as it is toxic, especially to the brain. Tomas took part in the OTC-HOPE clinical trial and received the gene therapy last year via an infusion into his liver cells. Since receiving the treatment, he has made good progress. Mum Mariana said: “We're so pleased Tomas was able to have the gene therapy - it's been incredible.” 💙 Find out more: https://lnkd.in/eeS_PUBN

A day in the life of a GOSH dietitian.💫 The dietetics team work across a range of clinical specialities at GOSH alongside doctors, nurses, healthcare scientists, and allied health professional therapists. There are 67 members of the team, ranging from dietetic assistants and support workers, to dietitians and ACPs, as well as the amazing team working in the special feeds unit. They of course have a passion for food and work closely with patients and families to use diet therapy to support their recovery, help with their symptoms and in some cases treat them. Working with the GOSH Women's Network as part of Women's History Month, some of the women in the team took us on a day in their life at the hospital. Watch the video below to get a peek into their world!

Earlier this month we marked the 40th anniversary of the first ever separation of conjoined twins at GOSH. Since then we've cared for 43 sets of conjoined twins, understood to be the most in the world at a single hospital. We caught up with some of the twins and their families to see how they’re getting on and hear what GOSH means to them 😍

We welcomed the Operation Ouch team to GOSH to learn all about VHeaRts, a virtual reality tool which provides patients, families and clinicians with an immersive look at the human body to help them prepare for surgery. It has been used in the planning of almost 100 surgeries over the past five years at GOSH. 16-year-old Callum, who used the VR tool with his surgeon Martin Kostolny in preparation for his heart surgery, said: “It makes me feel less nervous ahead of my operation as I now know what to expect. It was strange but cool. Seeing the inside of my heart was like seeing a giraffe without its head.” Check out the No Sleeping in the Lab episode on iPlayer to see more 🎥
