The sun shone bright today in Leven as we welcomed the First Minister as part of #ClimateWeek and the launch of the Scottish National Adaptation Plan. First a walk to the site of river restoration works, then down to the Fife Renewables Innovation Centre (hosted by the wonderful Anne-Marie) to meet all our team and partners who are working incredibly hard on multiple environmental and social regeneration projects. The Leven Programme was driven in part by aspirations of the #ChristieReport: collaboration, partnership and more effective use and value from the public sector, but is has become much more than that. We have made friends, and today felt like a celebration - we are still here and still determined despite challenges! Seeing community groups and teams from all our organisations being recognised for their tireless work was wonderful, and giving that openly and genuinely is a critical part of good leadership. Well done all ❤️🌍 Hannah Swanson you were missed, along with lots of others. This timely report on vacant and derelict land reuse is very welcome and highlights both the progress made in recent years and recommendations to keep the momentum going. These include the need for repurposing VDL as greenspace and supporting community-led initiatives, both of which are key workstreams at the heart of the #CSGN. We look forward to working with partners to progress this vital area of regenerating central Scotland for people and for nature. #VDL #ScotClimateWeek
Four years on from our VDL taskforce recommendations, this review by Ryden looks at some of the progress made in addressing vacant and derelict land and shows encouraging signs of progress including a 27% reduction of sites on the SVDL register since 2016 📉 Much of the progress has been made in re-use of sites for housing which accounts for 51% of re-use purpose 🏘 The report evaluates progress and need for further action as well as highlighting good practice and examples of successful land re-use. Fantastic to be acknowledged as part of the #LanarkshireClimateActionFestival in the lead-up to #ScotClimateWeek. 🌱 🍃
During Lanarkshire Climate Action Festival lots of brilliant local organisations have come together to take climate action, but outwith the festival there are plenty more organisations who are making a positive difference. The Green Action Trust is one such organisation and this week we are taking a closer look at how they are supporting a sustainable and thriving environment in Lanarkshire and Central Scotland. Give it a little read 👇 If you would like to know more about the Green Action Trust, head to their website: https://lnkd.in/gXZu-yuQ #LanarkshireClimateActionFestival #LetsDoNetZero #ScotClimateWeek

Greenspaces should support the needs of the local community, and the Cumnock Memory Garden does that and more. Together with partners at Cumnock Action Plan and East Ayrshire Council, we delivered a dementia-friendly greenspace that is accessible and vibrant. This tranquil community garden serves as a habitat for pollinators and wildlife, and is also a multipurpose space where leisure activities can be conducted safely outdoors, providing benefits to quality of life and mental and physical health and well-being. Interesting and unique features include: 🌿 Sculptures inspired by memories shared by the local community 🌿 Colourful resting spaces and exercise posts 🌿 A sensory garden with wildflower meadow Discover how liveable greenspaces can help keep users active, happy and healthy in older age in our latest blog post below: https://lnkd.in/gfda8YtC This project is delivered as part of the Central Scotland Green Network.

Great design, amazing project. It's good to see how blue-green spaces can be both attractive and beneficial to wildlife and communities.
This project is part of Green Action Trust's 10,000 Raingardens for Scotland campaign and was delivered in Spring 2022. Iglu submitted a successful tender to create a nature-based solution to address flooding issues in Zetland Park through a rain garden within the context of an existing rose garden in a large public park. The project won 1st Prize in the Climate Change Adaptation category at the 2022 Green Flag Awards. #BuiltEnvironment #GreenSpaces #StrongerCommunities #LandscapeArchitecture #ClimateChange
