We have initiated coverage on Guardian Metal Resources (AIM: GMET) which is rapidly advancing its #Tungsten project, at Pilot Mountain in #Nevada, to meet the demands of the industrial-military complex in the US for this key metal. Tungsten is back in the limelight after a flush of interest ten years ago. The retreat in prices decimated the explorers and developers and sent some producers broke. This created a project pipeline that was distinctly empty until recently.  In this note we look the work currently underway at the Pilot Mountain project, the Tungsten space in general, the heightened interest of the US government in funding projects in the metal and the price & demand dynamics in recent years. https://lnkd.in/e6uh2EBG

Watch below ⬇️ https://lnkd.in/eG6wEhZn ➡️Guardian Metal Resources has announced significant assay results from its first drill hole at the Pilot Mountain project in Nevada, with tungsten grades reaching up to 1.44%, some of the highest ever reported for the project. ➡️In addition to tungsten, the results revealed valuable quantities of #zinc, #silver and #copper, highlighting the poly-metallic nature of the deposit. Zinc grades were particularly encouraging, with some intercepts showing 2.5% zinc. ➡️The drilling campaign aims to expand the known resource of 12.5 million tons of tungsten ore. With 20 more drill holes to go, the company is optimistic about increasing both grade and resource size.

We are working together with Guardian Metal Resources to better understand the current and future needs for strategic materials in #fusion energy. #Tungsten is one of the key metals needed for commercial fusion power plants. It has the highest melting point among all elements and is resistant to radiation damage, making it suitable for the harsh environment required for plasma-facing applications. We have been developing a tool to identify suitable materials for different fusion power plant types, alongside #GMET's knowledge on critical mineral supply, the combination allows the prediction of how different elements will need to be used in commercial fusion power plants.   Understanding and predicting how the demand and supply of tungsten will evolve in the coming decades is important for the fusion community, where it is one of the most widely specified special materials. The collaboration is enabling a deep understanding of the supply chain for power plants for the future.
