At our Duncan manufacturing facility in USA, we’ve implemented a staff-wide policy for how best to deal with materials and waste to reduce consumption and the amount that ends in landfill. The aim is to foster a positive relationship with waste among all employees so that the right thing to do becomes second nature. The policy covers materials such as general trash, paper, steel, wood, wires, computer boards (used in all our gates), toner cartridges, plastics and aerosol cans. Reuse is encouraged wherever possible and bins for materials to be recycled are placed for convenient access, making it a natural process to deal with waste in the correct way. The policy also identifies that it’s everyone’s responsibility to ensure proper processes are followed and colleagues are encouraged to report issues. 2025 will also see a series of improvements to waste management, including a composting programme and ongoing education and engagement for staff. Implementation of the policy has already led to change: eliminating single-use coffee cups and a switch from plastic cutlery and utensils to washable metal items, reducing the waste generated in disposable plastics. Also, wooden pallets are now broken down and reused for packaging pedestals for products coming off the production line. The policy helps all colleagues at our Duncan plant to make small changes to their daily practices which collectively have a positive effect on reducing the impact of our operation and keep us on track in being a more sustainable business. #sustainability #business As a Certified Signatory of The Anti-Greenwash Charter, we’re committed to transparency, accountability, fairness and honesty in our sustainability communications. Can we solve tomorrow's risks, with today's solutions? Today at Data Centre World London, JC Powell asked this very question in his session on "Ensuring Entrance Control Compliance". JC highlighted the importance of physical security in data centre design, highlighting how compliance and effective entrance control are essential to mitigate unauthorised risks and avoid potential fines. He explained the six layer security framework, including measures from the perimeter to the rack and that physical security is just as vital as cybersecurity in protecting our digital infrastructure. Saturday was International Women’s Day #IWD and in the run-up to the day, Gunnebo Entrance Control colleagues across the world came together to celebrate the women in our business and the ways in which we #AccelerateAction to achieve better equality. In India, our colleagues really celebrated in style with every woman in the business receiving a commemorative silver bracelet presented by our president, Howard Lang. The day was also recognised with male and female employees coming together for a team lunch, where time was taken to reflect on the successes and contributions of women in our business. For our female colleagues in China, IWD was marked with a well-being and mindfulness session of traditional Chinese Qigoing, a body posture, movement and meditation practice for health and spirituality. Across Europe, people gathered at our virtual Fika Friday, hosted by Blanca Sebastia, evp and general manager for the region. With a photo challenge and trivia quiz, the session saw attendees celebrate the achievements of women, learn about remarkable figures, and share personal stories of women who have inspired them. Our Cominfo business unit also got involved, with plant manager Ales Papadakis, taking the time to personally thank all the women for their contribution to the business. America saw women in the business reflect on their journeys within the business and how they find solidarity and support from their female colleagues. As Elizabeth Broz, sales and operations coordinator sums-up, “the support of other women as mentors at Gunnebo has shaped my growth”. We were delighted to see so many of our colleagues embrace International Women’s Day and come together to recognise the incredible achievements of women. As an employer that strives for equality and equity for all our employees, we are proud to have such empowered and committed females in every part of our business. We will continue to make every effort to accelerate action to achieve a more equitable world that presents the just opportunities for women to thrive.
