For those who don’t already know it, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is seriously (I mean seriously!) on the move, in healthcare and right across the economy. The energy, dynamism and optimism in Riyadh is absolutely palpable. A burgeoning professional class of Saudi men and women are driving extraordinary growth and innovation. I was privileged to join a panel at the Global Health Exhibition - ملتقى الصحة العالمي with Dr.Basmah Rafie and Eng. Mohammed Alzahrani, which was so skilfully moderated by Mecciya Majrashi.MBA.CPPS.CPHQ. CPXP. GHE was a brilliantly orchestrated event - congratulations to Zeba Shaikh and all colleagues involved. Other countries have much to learn from KSA, including the groundbreaking MOH virtual hospital, King Faisal Specialist Hospitals and King Saud University Hospitals, whose leaders I was honoured to meet. Particularly impressive is the leap forward being made in health tech, at the forefront of which is Cloud Solutions, headed by Mr Abdulelah Al Mayman, and most ably supported by my dear old friend Joseph Walker-Cousins MBE. I managed to squeeze in a visit to the new, and quite extraordinary, Dr. Sulaiman Al Habib Medical Group Hospital in Saharfa - one of the most technologically enabled hospitals I have ever seen. Thank you Emmeline Roodenburg and colleagues for hosting me so kindly. More and more people are going to be paying close attention to healthcare and tech in KSA in the years ahead so I’m delighted Guy's and St Thomas' Consulting has formed a strategic alliance with AMI Healthcare to be a part of that journey. While our Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust delegation is attending Global Health Exhibition - ملتقى الصحة العالمي in Riyadh, we welcomed an invite from the Health Attaché of the Saudi Health Mission UK in London to attend a live broadcast of the opening of the event. We could hear remarks about the investments that the Ministry of Health Saudi Arabia is focussing on to accelerate the development of healthcare services in the Kingdom, to achieve digital health transformation, healthcare sustainability and patient-centred care. Last week, we were thrilled to welcome the team from Cloud Solutions to the AI Centre for Value Based Healthcare for insightful initial discussions around a potential future collaboration. Our conversations highlighted the transformative potential of AI in healthcare, with a focus on how it can enhance patient outcomes and drive value-based care. However, what truly stood out was the shared understanding that AI solutions must be viewed in the context of the entire AI lifecycle—from data collection and processing, to model deployment, continuous learning, and ethical considerations. Last week Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust’s Chief Executive, Professor Ian Abbs, and Chief People Officer, Crystal Akass, welcomed a delegation from the Ministry of Health Saudi Arabia to continue with strategic staff wellbeing discussions alongside our delivery partner Strategy& Middle East.   The visit highlighted some of the universal challenges that we can address together by harnessing the Trust’s experience in dealing with these.
