The Anchorage is within touching distance October has been a month where the architectural details have come together at Wyre Piddle. Internally the spaces are beginning to feel like a home, with the staircase, bathrooms and living spaces all forming, balancing the comfort and energy efficiency of the Passivhaus standard with the connection to the river. Externally the spaces are ready for their finishes which will harmonise the building with the surrounding Conservation Area. Don't forget that you can visit this project for the Passivhaus Open Day on 9th November 2024 and we hope to see you there. #anchoragepassivehouse  #passivhaus  #conservationarea  #passivehouse Kerry Mashford OBE, Beattie, Adam Greenfield

We will be sharing our insights of why to consider the Passivhaus standard for your self build, the benefits, opportunities, pitfalls to avoid, but in addition how we use a design-focused approach to make your home a Passivhaus with wow-factor. Come and find us at Stand 117, in the Masterclass Theatre, or alternatively please do get in touch at any time to discuss your project. #homebuildingandrenovatingshow #passivhaus #passivhausmasterclass

We’re happy to be working with Habitat+ Architects Ltd, an architectural firm specialising in healthy, low-energy buildings with sustainable, imaginative, and carefully crafted designs, to transform Lingfield College ‘s 1970s Performing Arts and Dining building with a fresh, modern look - have a look at the second slide for their visual of the new building! The dining area is being re-imagined as a versatile space that promotes calm and comfort—not just for mealtimes, but also for events, breakout study sessions, and functions. Key features are already taking shape on-site, including an impressive glazed focal point by Uprise Construction. In our workshop, we’re crafting bespoke wall panelling and a servery to elevate the dining experience, ensuring the space is ready to deliver fresh, healthy meals daily. We’re excited to see this project come together in the coming months!

  • It’s the Passivhaus Open Days 2024 - Winter Edition, and the Anchorage is back. The Anchorage is a carefully crafted, innovative and pre-fabricated contemporary Passivhaus set in the heart of the Wyre Piddle Conservation Area. It’s a house which will maintain an internal temperature of 20 degrees all year round, regardless of a heat wave outside or snow on the ground. It will do this using the sun as the primary heat source - there is no central heating system. It will be a true healthy home, with a pollen and pollutant free internal environment. And it will do all of this for around one tenth of the energy consumption of the equivalent house built only to a building regulations standard. Want to know more? Come and see on 9th November. • There are a few things you might not know about the newest member of our team, Elias. Did you know he’s half French and half Romanian? Did you know he maintains a calmly competitive demeanour during a lunchtime game of table tennis? I bet you didn’t know that he has just received the RSAW Dissertation Award from the Welsh School of Architecture for his work titled: Play Between Communist-Era Blocks in Brașov’s Worker's Districts; The Value of Fața Blocului and the Spatial Meaning of Urban Void. We are both impressed and proud. Well done Elias! #habitatplus #elias

It's all in the details... At Lingfield College, the PAD (Performing Arts and Dining) project is taking shape with the key elements visibly forming. Uprise Construction are diligently creating an impressive opening through the side of the 1970s building, with substantial temporary works, ready to operate as a new glazed focal point. The acoustic ceiling, which will reduce and control the acoustic reverberation, is largely installed, while the mechanical equipment which will ensure multiple air changes an hour with minimal heat loss below is almost in place. Offsite the wall panelling and servery are being carefully crafted by Eren Hasan and his fantastic team at Catersales. These components will come together to help serve the healthy, fresh food with Lingfield’s catering team diligently prepare each day. We look forward to all of the pieces of this jigsaw coming together over the next couple of months as this project continues to come to life. #PAD #Lingfieldcollege #freshfoodfreshminds #transformationalretrofit

  • Three become four. On Monday we welcomed to our team Elias, a very talented Part 2 Architectural Assistant with fantastic experience, who has recently graduated from Cardiff University. We are thrilled that he’s joining us and will support the team in our work. We are also incredibly excited by the elegance displayed at the team breakfast - far more class than the rest of us combined! Welcome Elias! #habitatplus #habitatplusteam

  • Brand new look. Same academic excellence and pastoral care At Lingfield College we are bringing to life a transformation of the 1970s Performing Arts and Dining building (PAD) with a fresh look and a new energy. Watch our video to see some of the project benefits. The dining space has been re-imagined, creating a calm, comfortable space not only for mealtimes, but for functions, breakout study and entertainment or events. It’s coming to life now, with the kitchen already complete, and the rest taking shape as you read. Follow our blog in the link below for more updates and the project unfolds. #PAD #lingfieldcollege #retrofittransformation #education Uprise Construction Caroline Bool (nee Wren)

  • "Everything was delivered on budget, on time, and in a super orderly way." It’s really great to have positive feedback from Nicola Poole, MD of Hedges Law following our recently completed project in Chipping Norton. It feels a bit shameless, but Nikki’s words really sum up the service and experience which we aim to deliver. We know that creating a design is only half of the job and that it’s our responsibility to make sure that we bring it to life, without design erosion, so that the full benefits can be realised. This project wasn’t just about creating something which looks spectacular; it was about making sure that the business would thrive in this new location by producing a return on investment, whilst becoming a part of the fantastic community in Chipping Norton. It’s only been open for 10 weeks, but early indications show that the business is flourishing. While we obviously can’t take all of the credit, we’ll happily take our fair share! #hedgeslaw #chippingnorton #transformation

  • How tight is airtight? Many people would reasonably assume that new homes are automatically built to a high level of energy efficiency, maximising the use of modern technologies to give optimum energy performance. Whilst many statistics will demonstrate that yes, new homes are usually more efficient than old, there is a huge lag between what building regulations specify as a requirement vs the possibilities of just how efficient your home could be. Two of the core Passivhaus (Passive House) principles are super-insulated and airtight structures allowing buildings to be heated by capturing and retaining the free heat available from the sun. In its airtightness test last month (a test which involves evacuating and pressurising the building to check for air leaks), we were delighted (and a little bit relieved!) when Anchorage Passivhaus scored an impressive airtightness of 0.44, well below the Passivhaus standard of 0.6 meaning it is well on its way to Passivhaus Certification. Building regulations specify that any newbuild should meet an airtightness level of 8. Although the units of measurement differ slightly, this is around twenty times worse than the level we have achieved in our project, showing just how vast the chasm is between what building regulations specify and the energy performance that we are striving for in Passivhaus. Given the complexity of the geometry in our cantilever and interlocking shapes at Anchorage, exceeding the airtightness goal to such an extent is a significant achievement. Well done to RDS Build!
