  • Last week, we hosted an event in collaboration with our charity partner Key4Life which aimed to connect members of the Key4Life cohort with business professionals. The event focused on discussing how ex-offenders thrive as they re-enter the workforce and the ways we can work together to break down barriers to success.   This was the final event in our two-year programme as Key4Life's charity partner. We are proud to have worked alongside Key4Life and grateful to have had the chance to support the young men in various events and initiatives over the past two years. We would like to thank Eva Hamilton MBE and the entire Key4Life team for giving us the opportunity to contribute towards driving positive change which has provided many across the firm with numerous rewarding and beneficial experiences. For anyone interested in finding out more, please contact our Harbottle & Lewis Key4Life team Alexa Collis, Emily Miles, Elisabeth Davies, Kemi Howard, Chenelle Olaiya, Christopher Ogundero & Hannah Mughal.

Unlocking Futures – huge thanks to Harbottle & Lewis for leading the way 🗝️ On Tuesday, I had the privilege of speaking at Harbottle & Lewis’ incredible event ‘Unlocking Futures’ - a powerful gathering where business leaders heard directly from our young men about the barriers they face to employment. It was deeply moving to hear some of the men’s experiences and to see companies like KPMG UK and NBCUniversal stepping up to remove the barriers blocking the way of the brighter futures they deserve. I invited the companies present to look at this untapped talent in a very different way, and to step up and give these young men real opportunities. Society has shut too many of them out. Yet, when given a chance, they can thrive and make such a positive contribution. Hearing from Aaron White – a former offender who now does amazing work for Key4Life as a Case Worker and Key Mentor - was a poignant moment of impact. He challenged everyone in the room to think differently: Look at Key4Life’s success stories and ask yourself—what if YOU could change a life? A huge thank you to Harbottle & Lewis, especially Alexa Collis and Elisabeth Davies, for hosting such an important conversation, and to Thea Tomison (KPMG) and Caroline Nankinga (NBC Universal) for sharing their invaluable insights. Now, we need more businesses to step forward. If your company is ready to unlock potential and create real change, I’d love to hear from you. Let’s make a difference together 💚 #UnlockingFutures #Key4Life #SecondChances #CorporateSocialResponsibility #UntappedTalent #BreakingBarriers

  • Recently, the Court of Appeal handed down a decision dismissing EE's £24.6m loss of profit claim against Virgin Mobile. The decision highlights the unpredictability of the interpretation of exclusion clauses and the critical importance of clear contract drafting.   Read Lizzie Williams's article where she summarises the verdict, here: https://lnkd.in/e2nFsj8U   #CourtOfAppeal #Legalinsights #telecomms #disputeresolution #techdisputes

We are hosting a panel event on 18 March with Key4Life to discuss changing attitudes towards employing ex-offenders in the workplace. The economic and social cost of reoffending in England and Wales is approximately £18 billion per year, and only 17% of ex-offenders secure employment within a year of their release from prison. Prison reform is at the heart of the government’s strategy and companies are increasingly being asked what role they are going to play. This event will explore how we can challenge current perceptions about employing ex-offenders and how businesses can equip themselves to create opportunities for them. It will provide a unique opportunity to gain insights from the panel and hear first-hand from men who have been through the prison system and the companies who are now working with them.
