My first opportunity to deliver the Qualsafe Level 3 Mental Health First Aid at Work course 🧠 Some really insightful discussions, opportunities to reflect & explore small, incremental changes that could be made to improve workplace wellbeing. 100% pass rate too 🌟 Congratulations Darren Critchlow Wendy Cook Frances White Georgia Harvey Chris Bennion and James White - successfully completing the course & gaining your Level 3 Mental Health First Aider at Work qualification. Quick visit to London today for the Make a Difference: Construction Summit 🏗 so inspiring to be in the same room as so many people committed to making positive change to improve the mental health & well-being of people in the construction industry. Some key highlights & messages that stood out for me: 💬 Paul Duffy challenging us to reflect on the exponential strides made in physical health & safety. Two construction workers every day in the UK die by suicide - how high does this need to be before equivalent action is taken to demonstrate physical safety and mental health are of equal importance? 💬 The dial is moving in the right direction - conversations are being had at all levels, but there is still a long way to go. Leadership at all levels have a responsibility to lead by example. Tackling the mental health crisis in the industry needs to address the "unpopular" - the root causes. Programme targets, payment terms, quality pressures, etc, etc = unmanageable stress & pressure throughout the supply chain. 💬 Contractors need to be empowered to challenge the causes of poor mental health. A morality approach is required from the top down - a fear driven environment does not create an industry where mental health can thrive. Thank you Sam Downie and all the team at Mates in Mind for creating a space for such open dialogue and sharing of best practice. Haswell Training
