The UK wine trade may be facing a ‘perfect’ economic storm right now but the mood was upbeat at the Hatch Mansfield 30th anniversary tasting. Taking David Kermode through evolutionary changes to its portfolio, managing director Ben Knollys explained the resilience of the importer’s business model, while vintages new and old were on show, both from Hatch’s three founding wineries and others from the 22-strong list of brands. Located in the Paraje Altamira (‘high place’), in the shadow of the Andes Mountains, Zuccardi - Valle de Uco winery has been designed to reflect the surrounding landscape. It was built as a tribute to the austere and solemn mountains that define the climate and the soils of the region. Constructed using materials sourced from the estate and nearby Tunuyán River, it is composed of concrete from the outside to the inside. It’s #InternationalPinotNoirDay on Sunday! And we will be toasting to it this weekend with these amazing wines: DOMAINE HERITIERS LOUIS JADOT Bourgogne Pinot Noir Couvent des Jacobins. A great taster to Louis Jadot’s style of fine red Burgundy, medium-bodied with lovely purity of raspberry and cherry fruit and smooth tannins. A carefully oak aged blend of Côte d’Or and Côte Chalonnaise Pinot Noir. Joseph Mellot Sancerre Le Rabault Rouge. Planted on a unique terroir in Sancerre, of very steep slopes with flint rich soil, this Sancerre Rouge is a wonderful example of Pinot Noir with black cherry and blackberry aromas and gorgeous silky-smooth tannins. Résonance Wines Willamette Valley Pinot Noir. This wine is made with grapes coming from two vineyards Résonance and Découverte, as well as with fruit sourced from top vineyards in the Willamette Valley. An inspiring blend, with aromas of red fruits that pair elegantly with a touch of spice and wood. Bursting with cherries and currants, soft tannins and a pleasant minerality. Viña Errázuriz Aconcagua Costa Pinot Noir. The combination of soil and climate found in the Manzanar vineyard, along with skilled winemaking, has resulted in a supremely elegant Pinot with great poise and structure. Sourced from the beautiful Aconcagua Costa vineyards where the morning mists roll in from the Pacific, it has crisp red cherry and raspberry notes with a hint of sweet spice and balsamic. It’s the perfect match for any occasion. Errazuriz Wild Ferment Pinot Noir. A Pinot Noir crafted with a nod to Burgundy tradition: natural wild yeast fermentation has imparted maximum complexity and charm. Errazuriz Estate Reserva Pinot Noir. A light-bodied and supremely elegant Pinot Noir. Grapes are strongly influenced by morning fog and cool breezes resulting in great acidity and balance. Villa Maria Estate Private Bin Pinot Noir. The Marlborough air seems to suit this most fickle of grape varieties, coaxing out seductive notes of ripe cherry and raspberry fruit and a soft palate bursting with ripe cherries and plum with smooth supple tannins. Villa Maria Cellar Selection Pinot Noir. Stylishly crafted from a range of clones planted on selected vineyard sites in the Awatere and Wairau Valleys of Marlborough. Silky complexity has been enhanced by 10 months barrel ageing. Esk Valley Pinot Noir. The Marlborough region, with its high sunshine hours and cool nights, is ideally suited to producing poised Pinot.
