Well done to everyone involved. It's great to see training for visual and disability persons in action.
Forefront Utilities was pleased to host the first visual and disability training day in collaboration with Blind Ambition. Seema Flower shared her personal experiences enlightening attendees on, appropriate behaviours, and the necessity of educating our teams. We have been working on developing our own road map. There are longer term goals to influence change at an industry level through Street Works UK, HAUC and JAG etc. to put more focus on disabilities in street works and look at technology such as tactile indicators, digital signage, audio beacons linked to phone apps etc, However the biggest change we could make in the short term was to raise awareness and provide information and training for our ops teams even if it was how to recognise those that might require assistance and how to offer that assistance. The training was highly interactive and we are dedicated to enhancing awareness of the essential requirements to ensure that all customers are considered when planning and executing streetworks.

This event, aimed at HAUC community members involved in utility street works, highway works, and road works, along with related stakeholders, builds on our April 2023 seminar. The workshop will focus on key areas including the Carbon Calculator, All Consequences Calculator, and Decision Support Framework. You can expect interactive presentations, insightful discussions, and valuable networking opportunities. The University of Birmingham research team will facilitate the event, and a comprehensive report will be provided following the event. This workshop will be instrumental in shaping the ‘Delivery Phase' of the Road to Net Zero project and offers a unique opportunity to influence the future of sustainable street works and road works across the UK. Together, we will move from asking “Why?” to determining “How?” as we continue our journey towards Net Zero.
We have a few places left at the Road to Net Zero Workshop (Decarbonising Street Works and Road Works) taking place on Thursday 7th November 2024 at the University if Birmingham. You can register to attend here: https://lnkd.in/ebDQuycj
