Inspiring the next generation at Sheffield Hallam University 🌟 Our brilliant colleague Tom Matthews visited Sheffield Hallam University recently to speak with final year QS, CPM, Real Estate, and Building Surveying students. Tom shared insights on energy efficiency in new buildings and highlighted HBD’s commitment to creating low-carbon development, a key focus as we shape more sustainable places for the future. A huge thank you to Tom and to all the students who attended; it was great to see so much enthusiasm for sustainability in the built environment! 👏🌍 #FutureofRealEstate #LowCarbonDevelopment #HBDplaces Beatrice Fairley

Congratulations to everyone shortlisted for this year’s coveted North West Business Insider Property Awards, in which we are nominated in two categories! Firstly, HBD is nominated as Commercial Developer of the Year, testament to the work we’ve done in creating great places around the country. Among those buildings is Island in Manchester, which is also nominated in Insider’s Commercial Development of the Year category. Island exemplifies our approach to new workspace. It’s a building with impressive sustainability credentials, smart technology, carbon targets, real-time energy consumption data screens, and a traffic-light system balancing fresh air with energy efficiency. The news comes at an exciting time for Island, which is being delivered by HBD and the Greater Manchester Pension Fund, as the building will welcome its first ‘happy humans’ when occupier Virgin Media O2 takes five floors of the building later this year. Wishing all nominees the very best of luck; see you at the ceremony in May! #HBDplaces #WhereGreatPlacesStart #NorthWestPropertyAwards

Earlier this month, our colleague Lee Treanor took part in the British Council for Offices North judging tour for 2025. New to the judging panel this year, Lee and the team saw some of the best in class commercial office schemes that the North has to offer. Lee said: “As someone who has spent the most of his career working in the commercial office sector, it’s a real privilege to become a judge for BCO North. The schemes were really impressive and it’s fantastic to see how innovative and forward thinking it has become.” The Northern Awards Dinner is a standout event for office design professionals, bringing together the best talent and creativity from across the North. The winners will be announced on 3rd April 25 at Kimpton Clock Tower in Manchester city centre.
