🚀#InnovationNews We're delighted to announce the Bedhead Tidy device, a product invented by a nurse and hospital engineer from East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust to keep patients' beds tidy, has been so successful it's now available to buy online. The Bedhead Tidy was developed by nurse Emma Thomson and former biomedical engineer Steve Connew after they were concerned with the messy storage of tubing and cables hung by patients’ beds causing contamination issues and avoidable additional costs. Funding support through the Innovation team at East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust (ESNEFT) where they worked, meant it was developed, tested and trialled and is now available for other health and care providers to buy. Emma Thomson, who is now head of resuscitation services at ESNEFT, said: “When you’re working in healthcare it means you have to adapt all the time to the needs of the patient. The Bedhead Tidy seemed such an obvious idea, but it’s great we had the support to develop it and now we can fit it to all beds across the Trust to help staff and therefore patients to make time matter.” “It’s a simple device and helps us do our job. It’s also cost saving as prevents wastage from items that are no longer able to be used and have to be thrown away. Every penny counts.” Through the Innovation team, the duo also had support from Health Tech Enterprise. We were able to provide advice around intellectual property rights and to lead the negotiations for the licensing agreement to help bring the device to market. Available through specialist critical care supplier Walters Medical Ltd this simple but cost-effective device improves patient safety. ❓ Are you on top of your Intellectual Property Strategy? Intellectual Property rights include patents, trademarks, design rights and copyright but how do you know which is suitable for supporting your innovation development? 💪 A robust intellectual property strategy is an important consideration for any business or organisation that is involved in developing innovations and wants to protect their valuable assets. 🤝 Health Tech Enterprise have worked collaboratively with ip21 Ltd to create some "IP Fact Sheets" which provide detailed information on the different types of Intellectual Property rights, the scope of protection afforded by these rights in addition to explaining the process involved for acquiring them. Links to the factsheets are in the comment below: #IntellectualProperty #IP #IPstrategy #innovation Cristina Penine, PhD, Rachel Daniel

⏱ Earlier and more accurate detection of diseases has to be a great thing right? At Health Tech Enterprise we speak to a lot of organisations who are focused on creating new and novel diagnostics for the early detection of diseases. We have also seen a huge rise in the number of companies utilizing the power of #AI to identify diseases from scan images and datasets. ⚖ However the #cost vs #benefits calculations for new diagnostic technologies can often be more complex than you would immediately consider. Especially in publicly funded #healthcare systems with limited resources. 💻 In this #whitepaper from Health Tech Enterprise originally produced as part of the MedTech Navigator programme we take a look at some of the #healtheconomic considerations in creating new #cancer #diagnostics 🔎 You can read the paper here: https://lnkd.in/ekejeFzP 👓 If you would like to find out more about the Medtech Navigator you can do so on this link: https://lnkd.in/eFHQA4pt #health #NHS #Healtheconomics #valuepropsition
