In October 2023 as some of you may know I underwent emergency open heart surgery at the royal Brompton hospital to repair an 8.3cm tear in my aorta and save my life. I am forever thankful for the team at the royal Brompton. I suffered an aortic dissection due to congenital heart disorders which I was unaware of In the UK every year more people lose their lives from aortic dissections than road traffic accidents according to heart research UK Less than 18months on from my surgery myself and my partner Emma Spong will be running the London Marathon to raise money for Heart Research UK who help raise awareness for undiagnosed heart disorders and deliver aortic dissection masterclasses to surgeons We are very lucky to be supported by the The Rev. Ted Baines Charity in our efforts who will add an extra £1000 to our pot if we recieve over £2000 so every little helps https://lnkd.in/eCDzb3bu We are also giving away our tickets to OASIS on 3rd August Wembley via a prize draw, tickets are £60 for the chance to win 2 tickets to see OASIS. Entries will close at midnight on 10th April and the winners will be contacted on 12th April. Please enter via the crowdfunder link not just giving. https://lnkd.in/eeFiCuAe Please share to your networks to help raise awareness Thank you Tom and Emma

🎉 Happy 2nd Anniversary at Heart Research UK to our amazing ‘award-winning’ Fundraising Assistant, Olena Pfirsch! 🎉 Olena hit the ground running from day one, using her natural people skills to build excellent relationships with colleagues and create outstanding supporter care for our event participants. She quickly took on managing her own events and played a crucial role in growing third-party income—almost tripling the target in 2024 for this income stream. 📈 Her expertise in data has been invaluable, helping us enhance our fundraising strategies and track progress. She’s always willing to go above and beyond—in 2023, Olena ran 2 half marathons and a full marathon, raising £1,300 for Heart Research UK! 👟❤️ Currently working toward her Certificate in Fundraising with the Chartered Institute of Fundraising, Olena’s dedication to professional development is clear, and her support has enabled us to scope out new income streams and continue to thrive. Just recently, Olena was celebrated at the Yorkshire Chartered Institute of Fundraising Awards, where she won Fundraising Newcomer of the Year. Here's what the judges had to say: 🌟 "Nice creativity and support for others and positive that they’re undertaking their own professional development." 🌟 "Really impressed by how this person seems to be a born fundraiser. Super dedicated, and a great use of initiative, combined with a real talent for stewardship and insights!! I think this fundraiser will do great things in our sector." 🌟 "Sounds like a great addition to the team, a natural fundraiser. Being data-driven is fantastic, reviewing results and changing behaviour accordingly. Innovative approaches to fundraising to engage new audiences, and willing to go above and beyond with donor care. An asset to the team." And as if that wasn't enough—Olena buys ME a gift each year on HER anniversary! 🎁🙌 (although yes, she has brought torrential rain to many of our events) Thank you, Olena, for all your hard work, creativity, and positive energy—you truly make a difference! 🌟 #HeartResearchUK #FundraisingExcellence #AnniversaryCelebration #AwardWinningFundraiser #ThankYouOlena
