A key part of this has been using the Supply Chain Sustainability School’s Carbon Tracker, a tool designed to help businesses understand, measure, and reduce emissions across their supply chains. With buildings responsible for 39% of global carbon emissions, it’s clear that the construction sector has a major role to play in achieving sustainability goals. By actively measuring and understanding our emissions, we’re ensuring we stay ahead of the curve. This data-driven approach strengthens the work we do on projects. Take Hyndburn Leisure Centre, where we introduced air source heat pumps and solar PV systems, cutting annual CO₂ emissions by an impressive 73.9%. Tracking our carbon impact ensures we’re not just delivering sustainable projects—it means we can continuously refine our approach, improve efficiencies, and deliver even greater results for our clients. The renovations at Selby HQ are moving full steam ahead, and we’re excited to share the completion of our latest phase. We’ve transformed the unused reception area into a functional three-person office space to accommodate our growing team—another step in creating a workspace that supports collaboration and growth. This milestone comes just a year after installing our new roof and solar PV system, which marked the beginning of our journey to align our headquarters with our net zero values. From there, we’ve added EV charging points, expanded parking, and more—all with sustainability and our team’s needs at the forefront. We’re proud to share one of our recent projects: HMP Liverpool. Collaborating closely with Dudley Council, we upgraded the facility to meet modern standards. Originally built between 1848 and 1855, the prison required extensive upgrades, particularly within its eight wings and associated plant areas. Refurbishing such a historic structure has presented unique challenges, including working within live environments while ensuring the safety of staff and inmates. Our role has included the design, installation, and commissioning of all mechanical and electrical systems. Key services delivered include: 🔴 Modernised LTHW heating and ventilation systems, compliant with NOMS standards 🔴 Efficient heat recovery systems and noise-attenuated ventilation for shower blocks 🔴 Installation of tamper-resistant, ligature-free sanitary systems 🔴 A state-of-the-art building management system to optimise HVAC and domestic systems As part of the project’s completion this year, we collaborated in fully refurbishing the wings, creating safer, more efficient environments for both inmates and staff. #buildingservices #refurbishment #hensall https://lnkd.in/e8ugW8wV

As we find ourselves halfway through the Salix funding window for 2024-25, it’s a good time to reflect on the incredible impact this initiative has had on the journey to net zero. Salix Finance was established to help public sector organisations access funding for energy efficiency and heat decarbonisation projects. By reducing carbon emissions and improving energy use, these projects are helping to create a more sustainable future for all of us. We’ve seen first-hand how transformative this funding can be. Take our work on the Hyndburn Leisure Centre—through Salix funding, we implemented sustainable solutions like air source heat pumps and solar PV systems, achieving an impressive 73.9% reduction in annual CO2 emissions. Nationwide, Salix has supported over 22,000 projects, contributing to annual carbon savings of 1.2 million tonnes. Working on one of the world’s most iconic luxury hotels is an honour, and we’re thrilled to be part of the comprehensive refurbishment of The Dorchester in London. We delivered mechanical services for bedroom upgrades across levels three to eight, ensuring every detail matches the hotel’s world-renowned standards. Key contributions include: 🔴 Installation of LTHW and CHW fan coil units for temperature control in bedrooms and corridors 🔴 New domestic water services, sanitary ware, and bathroom ventilation systems 🔴 Motorised fire/smoke dampers for enhanced safety 🔴 A state-of-the-art BMS system integrated with Lutron lighting for energy efficiency and carbon reduction This sensitive project involves a meticulous and quiet strip-out process to minimise disruption, followed by the installation of advanced systems that ensure the utmost comfort and sustainability. We’re proud to share one of our projects, where we partnered with Alliance Leisure to decarbonise Hyndburn Leisure Centre. The project was made possible through funding from a Salix grant. The project involved integrating two air source heat pumps into a traditional gas-fired heating system, ensuring compatibility with existing emitters. We also installed 652 solar PV panels, new Dantherm pool AHUs, pool pump motors, and an advanced building energy management system. Seamlessly retrofitting a modern, sustainable system into an older setup required precise planning and execution. We delivered a futureproof solution, reducing annual CO2 emissions by 462 tonnes (73.9%), all on time and within budget. “The team at Hensall has carried out numerous projects for Alliance – both in respect of decarbonisation initiatives, air source heat pumps, and full M&E solutions.
