The Labour Party has delivered on its manifesto pledge to put forward legislation introducing major employment law reforms within its first 100 days in government. The publication of the Employment Rights Bill on 10 October 2024 represents one of the most significant legislative developments UK employers have seen in an entire generation. The UK Government has announced that the Bill contains 28 employment reforms, all of which were alluded to in its pre-election “Plan to Make Work Pay“. In our latest briefing, HFW's Michelle Chance and Lydia Cammiade outline some key provisions of the Bill that UK employers of all shapes and sizes need to keep an eye on and start planning for. Read the full briefing here: https://lnkd.in/eC6Jcpdi For more information about how the Employment Rights Bill may impact your business, please reach out to Michelle or Lydia. We were pleased to welcome clients and other esteemed members of the legal and business communities to our Sydney office this week for a seminar exploring proportionate liability in arbitrations. At the event, HFW partner Jo Delaney was joined in discussion by The Hon. Robert McDougall KC and Daniel Meltz AM of 12 Wentworth Selborne Chambers. They examined the recent landmark High Court of Australia decision Tesseract International Pty Ltd v Pascale Construction Pty Ltd, in which the Court held (by majority) that Australia's proportionate liability laws apply to arbitrations. Our three panellists discussed the far-reaching consequences of the decision and detailed its impact on construction projects and arbitration in Australia. Senior members of the legal community in attendance, including The Hon. Tom Bathurst AC KC, The Hon. Steven Rares KC, Mark Dempsey SC, Terry Mehigan SC, ACICA President Judith Levine and ACICA Secretary-General Diana Bowman, joined the conversation and contributed insightful perspectives on the topic. Many thanks to our panellists and our guests for such an engaging and informative session.
