Our final organisation featured for Challenge Poverty Week is New Start Highland. New Start Highland is a social enterprise that supports people at risk of homelessness and those trying to move forward from a place of crisis. This could include domestic violence, mental ill health, long term unemployment or social isolation. Most of their service users experience more than one of these issues, if not several. Since they established in 2000, they have supported 240,000 people furnish their homes, diverted 10,000 tons of furniture and household goods from landfill and provided 30,000 furniture and starter packs to people exiting homelessness. Each year they work with 1,500 families and individuals, providing work experience and qualifications that pave the way to sustainable employment. Their volunteer placements and cookery and energy efficiency courses enable people to connect while advancing our overarching mission of reducing poverty, loneliness and isolation.
