Calling all our northern members and partners! Join Luci, Community Development Officer for Caithness & Sutherland, for a day of connecting with our Hub members. Come along to Wick River Campsite for a tour of their facilities including their new Net Zero Toilet Block, led by Wick Development Trust. Then head over to Newtonhill Community Woodland Bothy for a tasty lunch and time to catch up with the progress of our northern members. Both Hub members & non-members welcome. It's a great chance for local organisations to catch up with the work of the community sector. Find out more here - https://lnkd.in/e_KcZkqj Hope to see you there! #LetsDoNetZero

While conversations are going on in Azerbaijan at COP29 around the global impact of climate change, at the Highland Council Chambers it was our local young people advocating for change at Mock COP29. 👏 Joan, Bethany, Luci and Ashleigh were thrilled to attend & support the work of Highland One World Global Learning Centre and The Open University. But it was the young people that really impressed us. Their knowledge of the impacts of climate change and ability to channel a character, but also awareness of how to empathise with communities facing a range of issues was so so impressive. For the duration of COP29, 'Art for Action' from schools across Highland will be displayed at the entrance to the Council. To know we have this enthusiasm for action in our communities is inspiring, we left feeling very excited for what the future holds! #LetsDoNetZero #COP29

🌍 Big Syn International Film Festival 🌍 We were delighted to represent our communities across Highland, Orkney and Shetland last week at the Big Syn International Film Festival, the World's Biggest Sustainability Film Festival run by the Centre for Big Synergy. Hub Manager, Joan Lawrie, Senior Project Officer Marion Reid and our filmmaker Cameron Mackay travelled to London for the Awards Ceremony on Friday evening. The Big Syn Film Festival is the largest public awareness-creating Sustainable Development Goals event of its kind, it has so far reached over 45 million in more than 120 countries across the world. Through the films and dialogue, millions of viewers are getting inspired to do more in their own lives because they see the big-picture and how all our lives are interconnected in this modern world. Our film Climate Action: Highlands & Islands being recognised from over 600 entries from 120 countries around the world is an incredible achievement. The film demonstrates the innovation, empowerment and vibrancy of communities throughout Highland, Orkney and Shetland in addressing the climate emergency and taking direct action. Ten communities are featured in the film who are taking direct, innovative and collaborative climate action from reducing waste and consumption with LOCHABER ENVIRONMENTAL GROUP to Polycrub in Shetland with their innovative approach providing a solution to both the circular economy and assisting sustainable local food systems. We were absolutely delighted to attend the event, networking and meeting other charities and filmmakers who are pursuing the same sustainable goals across the world and to achieve both national and international recognition for our small corner of that world. Showing the vibrancy and power of our communities in Highland, Orkney & Shetland in taking climate action. 🎬Want to view our film? https://lnkd.in/epzKDwRh #ClimateAction #CommunityClimateAction #Highland #Orkney #Shetland #LetsDoNetZero #SustainableDevelopment #SustainableDevelopmentGoals

Katy managed to get a tour of The Edinburgh Tool Library (Charity Reg - SC045162), The MAXwell Centre and Dundee Toolbox! As a Member of her local Community Development Trust on Skye she was looking at the Exchange Initiatives at each place and how they can be replicated in the Highlands and Islands. She's shared her experience & learnings from each place in her latest blog. Read it here - https://lnkd.in/eqUKQYfi #LetsDoNetZero
