About us

Hinckley & Rugby Building Society was formed in 1983 by the merger of Hinckley Permanent Building Society, which was founded in 1865 and Rugby Provident Building Society which was established in 1861. A top 20 society, Hinckley & Rugby has total assets of more than £740 million and over 50,000 savers. In addition, it has over 7,000 borrowers who are also benefiting from the Society’s success. The Society is committed to providing an extensive range of competitive savings accounts and mortgage schemes and to providing the highest standards of customer service. With 7 branches and 2 agencies, Hinckley & Rugby is not only represented in some of the towns and cities of the East and West Midlands, but it is also strongly committed to having outlets in smaller village communities, where it is often the only financial services provider for miles around. The Society is proud of its pioneering volunteer scheme ‘Community First’ which gives staff up to three days’ paid leave each year to get involved in volunteering projects of their choice. As well as opportunities to become involved with many national and local charities, the Society is committed to working with Leicestershire Cares, which fosters links between businesses and local people and organisations in need of help.

  • We teach our children to brush their teeth, wash their hands, and to say “please” and “thank you” long before they even step foot in school, because we know the earlier we start good habits, the more engrained they become. Saving is no different. 💸 Why not give the young people in your life a helping hand and encourage them to start building a savings habit that could benefit them for a lifetime? The Society have been working with WizeUp Financial Education for over 10 years – supporting the Financial Education charity and young people by sponsoring interactive money management sessions in local schools. 🏫 This #UKSavingsWeek we have again teamed up with WizeUp to welcome 20 pupils from local all age SEN school Dorothy Goodman School for some hands-on experience visiting a building society and opening an account. This visit complemented their classroom based session which included personal ambitions, earning money and budgeting. 💸 Charity CEO Michael Flack said: "I am very proud of the pupils' achievements today. Financial literacy is an essential skill, and we hope we have equipped them with some of the tools they need to prepare for adult life. I would like to thank Dorothy Goodman for allowing us to return and collaborate with them once again and Hinckley & Rugby and the branch team for their continued support." Branch Operations Manager Tracey Ingram said: "Our team were, as always, happy to welcome the pupils from Dorothy Goodman and talk them through our application form and opening an account. The WizeUp sessions aim to provide practical life skills to encourage good money management, so the real-life scenario of a branch visit feels like a helpful addition to their agenda." • Over the past few months we've been sharing the charities and organisations our Community Foundation are supporting this year. The final charity we'd like to spotlight is Lutterworth & Area Hygiene Bank | The Hygiene Bank Hygiene poverty is rising, alongside food and fuel poverty, due to the cost of living and inflation crises. Since 2022, an additional 1.1 million people have been pulled into hygiene poverty nationally. This project collects public donations and distributes them to community partners including Lutterworth, Rugby and Hinckley food banks, John Wycliffe Primary School, Hinckley School, Lutterworth Family Hub and Home Start. Since their launch in February 2023, they have distributed over 3 ½ tonnes of products such as shampoo, body wash, deodorant, razors, nappies, period products, laundry detergent, toilet rolls, and dental care. 🧼🪥🪒🧴 Tessa Trace, shared how our support will be making a difference: "The Society’s grant will help towards the rental costs of our storage unit and equipment needed to sort and move products, tote bags in which to distribute products discreetly to end users and for them to purchase less frequently donated products such as laundry detergent, sun cream, shaving gel and moisturiser. We support those of us experiencing hygiene poverty across all ages. Young families can feel overwhelmed with the additional costs of looking after babies and toddlers and the Society's support means that we can help them with age-specific toiletries as well as nappies and laundry products. Our community partners tell us that the hygiene products we bring them go out to families struggling to afford the basics on top of feeding their families." Learn more about our Community Foundation: https://lnkd.in/ewwiGmfP 💛 If you're local to the Lutterworth area and would like to support, you can donate any unopened toiletries or cleaning products at our Lutterworth branch. You can also take part in a raffle! (being drawn this Friday). #Leicestershire #Lutterworth #HygieneBank #LocalCharities
