Our network of UK branches Our branch colleagues are the face of Skipton Building Society. They’re relationship-builders, team workers, great talkers and they’re brilliant at listening too. • Recognising Women in Tech is crucial, and we believe engaging with local schools is a powerful way to drive positive change and inspire girls into tech in the future. That’s why as part of our International Women’s Day events this week, our Women in Tech Colleague Resource Group hosted an event for students from Skipton Girls’ High School and Ermysteds’ High School focused on the tech careers available at Skipton Building Society. We know that visibility and representation matter and by highlighting current female talent who are thriving in tech and showing the variety of roles available, we can inspire others to pursue careers in STEM. Hear more from some of our colleagues who attended today's event: "In today’s world Technology and Data are integral to everything we do. Skipton Group is passionate about helping our members and our communities and sessions like today’s are essential to help young people in our community understand the opportunities that exist in STEM.” Jenny Wood, Skipton Group Chief Information Officer. "We are delighted to invite young people into Skipton to showcase the breadth of career options and pathways available in STEM. We want to challenge outdated stereotypes and provide opportunities for young people to see themselves thriving in tech and engineering." Shagufta Sharif, Head of Diversity Equity and Inclusion.

  • Our branch colleagues have been busy since the start of the new year. 🎀Our Otley and Exeter branches reopened their doors with a fresh new look and celebrated with grand opening events. We were honoured to be joined by special guests including Otley Councillor, Penny Robinson and Harry, a local hero who is also one of our oldest customers in Exeter. 🚴♀️Scarborough have joined up with Saint Catherine’s Hospice in their ‘40,40,400’ challenge to raise £400 by completing a rigorous static bike ride on Wednesday 5th March. Those participating are cycling a remarkable 120 miles. Good luck to all! 🥚This Easter, the Reading branch is supporting Home Start by collecting Easter eggs which will go to families with young children who are facing significant challenges ranging from ill health, domestic abuse, poor housing to financial hardship. ❤️ Reigate branch met with Pro-Active Community, to receive their Community Giving donation of £1,000. This contribution will significantly enhance the charity's vital work and community initiatives in representing people with learning disabilities, autism, and acquired brain injury. 🌞Lastly, it was a lovely surprise to receive a heartfelt card from one of our customers expressing their sincere thanks to our Reigate branch colleagues for their support during a difficult time.

The first step onto the property ladder remains by far the hardest.    The Skipton Group Home Affordability Index we’ve put out today shows this chronic lack of affordability is about to get worse. The upcoming changes to #StampDuty reforms and increasing irrelevance of the LISA thresholds is making a bad situation worse. Almost 90% of potential first-time buyers across Great Britain are unable to afford to buy their own home in their local area, while 4 in 10 potential #FirstTimeBuyers are spending over 45% of their income on essential housing costs.    First-time buyers are working hard and saving diligently. Despite their efforts, monumental barriers stand in their way. Barriers that can and should be removed.    Our Home Affordability Index breaks down the numbers, revealing where buyers are struggling the most, and what this means for the future of homeownership.    Find out more with our interactive tool: https://lnkd.in/emVGPW3b   #SkiptonHAI

At a time when affordability is already stretched, the upcoming #StampDuty changes are moving the goalposts and increase the pain already felt by #FirstTimeBuyers. First-time buyers purchasing a £425,000 home will now face an additional £6,250 in costs – a sum that could be the difference between buying or staying in the rental market. That’s why we’ve launched the Skipton Group Home Affordability Index Report, which reveals: 🏡 The impact of these reforms on first-time buyers 🏡 What’s driving the crisis 🏡 The most and least affordable local authority areas for first-time buyers Explore living affordability and buying affordability across Great Britain with our interactive tool: https://lnkd.in/e4My-6Nt #SkiptonHAI
