We apply trauma-informed approaches to bridge the gap between Hip Hop and expressive writing. We include everyone but are particularly keen to work with men, young people and Minority Ethnic people due to the mental health inequalities these groups face - especially as they are widely represented in Hip Hop culture. **Free Trauma-informed Hip Hop Course Coming Soon** I've just completed a 36-chamber (episode) podcast journey through #HipHop #Therapy. It led me to write a free online course on my method, built from: - narrative therapy techniques - elements of poetry therapy - principles of music therapy - person-centred counselling methodologies - decades of experience teaching English and Drama across all Key Stages Here is me interviewing myself in the final epsiode - the final season was actually a post-graduate research project in #music at University of York. Our first intro episode was 'Chamber 0' so technically, this is Chamber 36 not 35. Those of you who know Wu Tang Clan and 'The Hero's Journey' mythic structure will also know the adventurer returns home to share their 'boon' or 'reward' back in The Ordinary World. This is where you become a #Mentor on someone else's journey. In that vein, Glowitheflow is an offering, not just a podcast. It was born out of the desire to share knowledge - initally, that of my very own Gandalf or Yoda aka Ben Rafiqi. He co-founded the #charity: 'Let's Feed Brum' and is so wise, I thought we needed to transmit our conversations to help others. For 18 years, I did not know I was carrying #trauma and #PostTraumaticStressDisorder or #PTSD. I learnt to cope because of my relationship with #Creativity. I fought for treatment, was pushed from pillar to post and patronised by medical professionals instead of cared for. I did not give up. I kept going back to the GP. I kept on asking: "Where next. I've tried this treatment. I've exhausted that service". It was like being in a giant machine where only a few of the moving parts connected. I love the NHS and I do not claim to know it all or be better than anyone, but when you don't know what your body is going to do from one second to the next and you've lost your job, your chance to do what you've always wanted and are on Universal Credit, with no hope of getting better via the NHS - you get desperate for help and because I had nowt to lose, I made my dreams happen. I am Kiz. I spread Hip Hop Therapy. It was through training as a #Writer for Therapeutic Purposes, I realised I had a serious mental illness. However, trauma is hugely misunderstood. In order to cope with it, I had to learn about it myself. My body and mind were out of control and I couldn't function at work, in relationships or at home. At times, having undiagnosed PTSD destroyed my health, my alliances and my potential...but it did not end there. I discovered that a trigger is also an ignition. I realised a burial can be a re-potting. Here's to #PostTraumaticGrowth! Below is the final session of my 3-season Heroine's Journey into Hip Hop and its healing powers. I'm going to release a free online course in the Spring. Pre-registration link in comment! Sending love to all. Where Are We? Call out for Stories from the Black Disabled Community of Birmingham. Artist Christopher Samuel is currently working with Birmingham Museums Trust to explore under-represented voices in museums and archives. As a Black, disabled person himself, Christopher has often found his story is missing in museums and collections. He is working with Birmingham Museums to gather missing stories and create a new piece of artwork for Birmingham’s collection. To inform this new work, Christopher is looking for other disabled people of colour in and around Birmingham to interview, to find out about their lived experience of growing up disabled and from the global ethnic majority. Please get in touch with Christopher using the form on our website before 29 February. https://lnkd.in/euWQW8wK
