Poppies return to the Tower of London 🌺 To mark the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War, some of the 2014 ceramic poppies will feature in a new commemorative installation within the Tower's walls. It's National Apprenticeship Week! To celebrate here are some photos and thoughts from some of our wonderful apprentices ⬇️ 🧹 "My job can be quite varied – one day I might be cleaning objects and the next I’ll be supervising filming in the palace, but it’s all to make sure that the palace and its collections are cared for for future generations. I don’t think there’s one specific thing I’ve done that I’m proud of – although not screaming when I saw a giant spider on a blunder trap might be up there! Mostly I think I’m proud of myself for giving everything a go." Sara, Preventative Conservation Technician Apprentice ✏️ "Supporting the recent ‘Relaxed Hour at the Tower’ was a recent highlight, seeing the families that attended so comfortable in our spaces was incredibly rewarding. The apprenticeship scheme has helped me meet with other like-minded apprentices, and given me opportunities for personal development as well, and I am looking forward to seeing where my role takes me next!" Amy, Assistant Sites Coordinator for the Schools and Communities Team 🎤 "I attended my first event within the first week of joining and from then on, I haven't had a quiet week. I have learnt how to plan for, set up, operate, and then tear down A/V equipment for a variety of functions including weddings, dinners, conferences and award ceremonies. I have been taught how to use a wide range of equipment, from small pin spotlights to entire mixing and lighting desks in order to help to create memorable experiences. Although I have already been involved with many functions, I am excited to see what else I can learn and contribute for future events both internally and externally." Caleb, Event Support Technician Apprentice 🧱 "I’m particularly proud of my involvement in the ongoing redecoration and repair of the Tiltyard Café at Hampton Court Palace. Taking the lead on this project—my first major task—has been both daunting and rewarding. It’s provided me with invaluable, hands-on experience in managing a refurbishment project, and I’m excited to apply the skills I’ve learned to further my progress in the apprenticeship."
