  • This weekend in Florence, the new line of the tram Alternative Variant Historic Centre, called VACS was inaugurated and opened to the circulation of trams in passenger service. The VACS is 2.5 km long and has a double track that connects six additional stops at 13 already in operation on Line 2. The connection from Peretola airport to the historic city centre will allow the transport of about 3,800 passengers per hour per direction, with a peak interval of four minutes and 20 seconds. The tram fleet will be composed of 18 Sirio trams, already supplied by Hitachi Rail in connection with the construction of Line 2. At full capacity, it is estimated that an additional 9,000 private vehicles will be reduced from city traffic, with a reduction in CO2 emissions for the benefit of air quality. Hitachi Rail coordinated the design of the work and carried out system engineering, design and supply activities for both the signalling and track-tracking system and the rolling stock, as well as preparatory activities for the next extension of Line 3.2.1. (Libertà-Bagno a Ripoli section). Find out more about the project here… (only Italian version) https://bit.ly/40MYTct
