Volunteers are essential to our neighbourhood approaches for improving health and life outcomes with local people bringing their lived experience to our community services. It is great to see 2 of our longstanding and much valued volunteers recognised at Gorton Pride Awards 2024. Joan was recognised for her volunteering work on our Ageing in Place project and a member of Age Friendly Manchester. Lee was recognised and won the Community Pride Award for his tireless involvement in the Gorton Community Grocer and now a member of the Making Manchester Fairer Community Forum. Significant moment for the new Making Manchester Fairer Community Forum. Here at Healthy Me Healthy Communities, on behalf of Manchester City Council we are facilitating the new Community Forum involving 16 residents and the MMF Programme Board. Making Manchester Fairer is the city's action plan to reduce health inequalities working collaboratively with residents and organisations. After an amazing response from residents to join the Community Forum, it was a privilidge to meet the Community Forum members and hear about their experiences and hopes for Making Manchester Fairer. A busy few months ahead exploring and discussing the 8 programme themes and objectives. Next stop Scrutiny and MMF Programme Board.
