Holtec Britain sets new record for UK Regulators’ Step 1 Approval! The milestone achieved today puts Holtec in a strong position – working closely with its key partners Hyundai Engineering & Construction Co.,Ltd., Mitsubishi Electric, Mott MacDonald and Balfour Beatty plc. Holtec’s plan for the UK also includes the establishment of a heavy manufacturing plant to build SMR-300 components mirroring the Company’s existing plants in the United States. The factory will deliver for the UK’s programme, exports to Europe and the Middle East while targeting prospective work in the UK’s Naval Defence program. Baroness Brown Julia King DBE FREng FRS, Senior Adviser to Holtec Britain said: “The UK target of net zero by 2050 is one we must meet. The government has also set an ambitious mission of clean power by 2030. SMRs and Holtec are critical to helping the UK achieve those goals. Holtec’s UK SMR factory will also help us to become a clean energy superpower, an exporter of SMRs, and create thousands of high-paying highly-skilled jobs domestically in the process.” https://lnkd.in/e8FCYa7T

Holtec Britain submitted our tender today for the Great British Nuclear (GBN) Small Modular Reactor competition. The Holtec SMR-300 uses PWR reactor technology, the most widely deployed technology class on the market, consistent with the existing UK nuclear ecosystem. Holtec’s innovative design will facilitate modularized construction of components in UK factories, which will be shipped to site for final assembly.    Our proposal is strengthened by the collaboration with our esteemed partners, including Hyundai Engineering & Construction Co.,Ltd. Holtec is uniquely positioned to serve as the vehicle for US, UK, and South Korean strategic cooperation.   The stakes have never been higher for SMR-300 joint deployment to provide UK energy security. We look forward to the opportunity to partner with Great British Nuclear and to playing a pivotal role in the ongoing evolution of the UK nuclear industry.

Professor Dame Julia King FRS FREng FMedSci, Baroness Brown of Cambridge, has joined Holtec Britain as its Senior Adviser in the UK. Baroness Brown of Cambridge has deep experience and an impeccable pedigree across academia, government, engineering, climate change, energy and advisory roles that will support Holtec Britain as it progresses through the SMR-300 Generic Design Assessment process and the Great British Nuclear competition. With a career spanning senior engineering and leadership roles in industry and academia, Julia started her career as an academic at Cambridge before joining Rolls-Royce plc. Afterwards she moved back into academia, becoming the Principal of the Faculty of Engineering at Imperial College London and subsequently Vice-Chancellor of Aston University. Julia currently chairs the Carbon Trust, the Climate Change Committee’s Adaption Committee and was previously the Vice-Chair of the Climate Change Committee; non-executive Director of the Green Investment Bank; and led the King Review on decarbonising transport (2008). She is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering and of the Royal Society, an Honorary Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences, and was made a DBE for services to higher education and technology. She is a crossbench Peer and currently chairs the House of Lords Science and Technology Select Committee. We are delighted to have Julia on the team!
