🍂Safety Tips for Autumn.🍂 As the leaves turn and the temperatures drop, it’s important to keep your older loved ones safe and warm. Here are some essential tips to help prevent slips, falls, and ensure a snug environment: 1. Clear Walkways: Keep paths free from fallen leaves, wet leaves, or debris. Regularly sweep or rake to prevent slipping. 2. Improve Lighting: As daylight hours shorten, make sure outdoor paths and stairways are well-lit. Install motion-sensor lights if possible. 3. Keep Warm: Dress in layers and use blankets to stay warm. Check that windows and doors are properly sealed to keep cold draughts out. 4. Check for Ice: As temperatures drop, watch for ice on driveways and walkways. By taking these precautions, you loved one can enjoy the beauty of autumn while keeping their home safe and comfortable. 🍁🏠 #Autumn #safety #tips #advice #HomeInsteadUk

The colder months can be tough at any age. Older people are particularly vulnerable to health risks that the cold brings, and it’s easy for them to get concerned about what lies ahead in the winter. In 2023 research from @AgeUK found that 52% of older people were concerned or very concerned about winter, with 45% worried that they would not be able to heat their home. One of this year’s challenges for older adults is fuel poverty. For information and advice, we recommend reading Age UK’s article on ‘Winter Fuel Payment’.
