Big strides have been made when it comes to breaking the stigma around wellbeing in the workplace. But with mental health remaining the leading cause of long-term absence from work with burnout and stress being some of the leading contributors, it's worth feeling prepared if or when those difficult conversations should arise. Here's a few simple ways you can show your employees support with the aim of helping them to feel their best again. 👉 When an employee shares how they're feeling, take a moment before responding and fully digest what they are telling you. They may have had these feelings stored up for some time and now feel relieved that it is out in the open. 👉 Listen and truly hear what they're saying. They may have brought specific examples to demonstrate how they are struggling to cope at work. Try not to react in a defensive way, and more think about how this can be worked through together. 👉 Be empathetic. Perhaps you have had similar experiences and can relate, if not, you can still show empathy and provide reassurrance that they did the right thing telling you about how they're feeling. 👉 Treat the issue seriously. Aim to understand the underlying problem and schedule a regular catch-up, ask what they feel is the main issue. If it's at work, are there short- and long-term plans you can put in place? 👉 Point them towards helpful resources that are available to them and encourage them to implement more self-care at work including regular breaks and implementing respectful boundaries with other colleagues. #Wellbeing #burnout #mentalhealth

Your behavior affects your mental and emotional health. Here’s how to become the person you admire. Many people struggle with emotional burnout because they react to external pressures instead of leading with intention. A study from the American Psychological Association shows that self-awareness is directly linked to emotional resilience, reducing stress by up to 30%. When you choose to be the person you want to work with, you align your behavior with values that nurture emotional balance. Daniel Goleman, author of Emotional Intelligence, emphasizes, "Self-awareness is the cornerstone of emotional intelligence." Imagine how much lighter your day would feel if your actions reflected the qualities you respect most in others. Building emotional health starts with conscious behavior, leading to greater mental clarity and reduced emotional fatigue. Take control of your mental well-being by embodying the values you admire**.** Follow for thrice weekly content on professional and personal growth ✅ 🔃If you found this post helpful, please repost it with your network. Work environments have changed. With hybrid models and employees on flexible contracts, travelling and working within global teams based around the world on different timezones, an office needs to offer a welcoming base that encourages creativity and enhances teamwork, while also supporting wellbeing. If you're thinking about how to improve your office space here's one point of discussion that seems to spark interesting debates: The cubicle. Here goes... The pros of cubicles: 👉 Offers privacy for confidential calls or assignments. 👉 Minimises the stress and distraction of hearing the office hubbub. 👉 Provides employees with a space that is theirs where they can add personal items to make it feel more comfortable. 👉 Creates a boundary, reducing distractions and disruptions. The cons of cubicles: 👉 The biggest con of the cubicle is the last pro mentioned in the above list: Barriers. They instantly reduce spontaneous communication and team collaboration. 👉 Can be small and cramped. 👉 They're not particularly aesthetically pleasing. If you're considering adding cubicles, an option is to ensure that there are still open spaces for teams to meet and collaborate, ensuring that there are options for your employees, as everyone works in different ways. The aim is to enhance your teams' workspace to boost productivity, improve wellness and job satisfaction. One way to find out, is to ask them. Yes, preferences will differ (perhaps greatly) although it's a great way to involve your teams in the decision-making process, gain different perspectives and implement an inclusive way of working. #Work #Offices #Workspace #wellbeing #mentalhealth #inclusivity

The pay attached to a job role is one of the most important details, making this even more powerful. 83% of employees believe their wellbeing is just as important as their salary. It firmly positions wellbeing as a priority alongside the salary attached to a job showing just how significant wellbeing has become. This is progress 😎 #Wellbeing #Mentalhealth #Workplacewellbeing #work

Mitigating against risk feels like a fairly obvious thing to do and within the workplace it's prioritised for all kinds of reasons. Prevention is key, and making wellbeing a priority in the same way would be a huge step towards building more healthy, happy, places to work in... before burnout and resentment creep in. Here's a few starting points: 👉 Find the problem! For every other workplace situation, teams identify the problem before diving into solution mode. 👉 Promote mental health and wellbeing awareness. 👉 Advocate for regular breaks. 👉 Implement ways that reduce multi-tasking. It can feel productive and creative, but too much of it can cause overwhelm. 👉 Where possible, delegate. 👉 Learn to say 'no' and put boundaries in place. Nurturing your people's wellbeing will help them to reach their full potential and feel valued. #work #wellbeing #mentalhealth

How many times a day do you see or hear the word 'wellbeing'? It's all around us. Which is a good thing! Although, what feelings or thoughts does it stir up for you? With so much pressure on the word itself, never mind the steps to "achieve" it, we wanted to recap. Yes, wellbeing is the feeling of contentment, feeling satisfied, having purpose in your life, being healthy and feeling happy. But there are various contributing elements to get to that point, here are the five main categories that help you to achieve overall positive wellbeing: 💙 Emotional wellbeing. Taking care of, and maintaining healthy emotions, nurturing the ones that make you feel good and relaxed. Doing this through self-awareness and having the tools to cope with positive and negative emotions. 💙 Physical wellbeing. Boosting your body health through exercise, healthy nutritional choices and sleep. Rewarding and advocating for your body... remember how much it works for you on a daily basis. 💙 Social wellbeing. Fostering a network of meaningful relationships that align with who you are and what you believe in, socialising on a regular basis and avoiding loneliness. 💙 Workplace wellbeing. Working in an environment where you feel valued and fulfilled, where you are contributing to a purpose aligned with your values and can progress guaranteeing professional satisfaction. As well as having fun and being creative! 💙 Societal wellbeing. Linked to all of the above, this is about being socially healthy. What does that mean? That you contribute to communities - cultural, work or personal, as examples - and show up in a way that reflects you as a person, sharing your values while being respectful towards others, challenging others with the aim of learning and developing rather than demeaning, and feeling connected to others and your environments. Achieving and maintaining this is not a simple one-fits-all journey and everyone's version of wellbeing is personal to them. Like many things in life, it can take work. But it's worth it. If you're looking for ways to improve the wellbeing and mental health of your people within your organisation, discovering what the problem area is first, provides direction and prioritises which areas to focus on. It's World Mental Health Day 🌏 What does it mean to you? For me, it means an opportunity to make a difference. Yes, there are lots of awareness days and sometimes it feels overwhelming. BUT if we have that ONE conversation that supports our own mental health, or someone else's, then we are heading in the right direction. Day by day, conversation by conversation, we are chipping away at the legacy of stigma and discrimination that people who experience mental health challenging, have suffered. Today, I got to facilitate a workshop in collaboration with Sam Gibson-Massey at Hope for one of our very special clients. We covered the topics of Calm, Compassion and Coping. Here are two images that captured my attention on my walk this morning. The beauty of nature and movement to ground me, and bring some calm. Also, great to see this on a van today. We never know who might read that at exactly the right time 🙏. Thanks to West Lothian Council for this. #worldmentalhealthday #workplacewellbeing #calm

It's World Mental Health Day and the theme is Mental Health at Work 💙 A topic we're extremely passionate about. With almost 60% of the world in work (ILO) it's an important issue to raise awareness about. As more and more data highlights how mental health and the workplace are intrinsically linked it's time for leaders, organisations and individuals to make positive changes to benefit themselves and their people. If you use today to make one change, the 5 C's are a great way to make mental health a priority every day: 💙 Connection: Make time for the relationships in your life that matter and contribute towards a positive outcome. Laughter, encouragement, friendship, love, and also support are all things we need relationships for. They help to combat loneliness, learn new things and enjoy life. 💙 Coping: Having a toolkit of coping strategies can help us through challenging times but also give you the confidence to know you can help to reduce the negative impact that stress can have. 💙 Community: Interaction, support and engagement are all things that boost our mindset. Networking is a great way to integrate and meet like-minded people. 💙 Care: This is your self-care must-haves, whether it's at work or at home. Make these a priority and don't feel guilty about making time for yourself. 💙 Compassion: Being kind. To yourself, and others around you. Have patience and empathy and show kindness when someone is struggling or needs your understanding. #WMHD #WorldMentalHealthDay #MentalHealthatWork #WorkplaceWellbeing #Mentalhealth

Why do we only hear about toxic work environments but ignore the silent killers? You hear so much about toxic work environments. Bosses that yell, micromanage and belittle. But the reality is: that doesn’t reflect most workplaces. However, just because you're not a toxic manager, doesn’t mean you are a good manager. Bad management is normally much more subtle. Here are the subtle signs that you may be a bad manager: 🚩 You treat everyone equally 🚩 You don’t communicate goals clearly 🚩 You don’t discuss career advancement 🚩 You don't celebrate team’s accomplishments 🚩 You're forgetful and disorganized 🚩 You’re a low energy leader 🚩 You have unproductive/too many meetings 🚩 You tolerate poor performers 🚩 You neglect team bonding Take a moment to reflect: Are you guilty of any of these missteps? These subtle management flaws can slowly erode team morale, productivity, and talent retention. Let me know what other silent killers have you observed? Repost ♻️ this to let your network know.
