Today we catch up with Alexia J., Assistant Front Office Manager at Great Scotland Yard - The Unbound Collection by Hyatt and a member of Women@Hyatt UK. 🟣 Can you share a bit about your career journey so far and a defining moment of your career? I started working Banquet shifts at Hyatt Regency Bellevue on Seattle's Eastside in Seattle, WA during middle school, and subsequently at the Reception throughout my schooling. I was delighted to get my foot in the door and connect with people from across the world. After completing a summer Operations Internship in Berlin, I decided to move to London for my career. Babacar Diouf, a great inspiration of mine, hired me as a Front Office Team Leader at the Hyatt Regency London – The Churchill - The Churchill. This was my first defining moment, before my transfer to Great Scotland Yard - The Unbound Collection by Hyatt as Assistant Front Office Manager. The switch to a smaller boutique-style hotel, where I need to be more hands-on in all aspects of the operation, has taught me the true value of experimentation and agility in the workplace. 🟣 What's your favourite part of your current role and what keeps you excited to come into work every day? The best part of my role is the opportunity to continuously learn and inquire alongside a wonderful team. I truly enjoy the challenges each new day brings and the simple joys within my everyday interactions with so many wonderful colleagues and guests from across the globe. 🟣 Favourite Hyatt benefit My favourite Hyatt benefit by far is the 12 complimentary nights. The ability to travel internationally with exposure to so many beautiful cities provides me a better understanding of other cultures and values, refining my mindset and communication skills. Today, we catch up with Layla Jensen, Associate Director of Groups and Events at Hyatt Regency London – The Churchill, who shares about her journey in hospitality, what it means to be part of Women@Hyatt UK, and current job opportunities. 🟣 Can you share a bit about your career journey and how you got to where you are today? What has been one of the most defining moments of your career? I studied marketing and I had no initial plans to work in hospitality. In fact, I kind of stumbled into the industry. What really caught my attention was how dynamic and people-focused hospitality is. The transition from marketing to hospitality felt natural, even though it wasn’t something I had originally envisioned for myself. I have embraced learning every step of the way, and it’s been an incredibly rewarding experience. One of the most defining moments of my life was when I made the decision to move to London (well the UK in general). I was living in Denmark and visited London on a school trip when I was 17 and fell in love with the city and felt, this is where I belong. 🟣 What’s your favourite part of your current role and why? What keeps you excited to come into work every day? My favourite part of my current role is definitely the sales aspect. I’ve always been driven by the challenge of connecting with people, understanding their needs, and finding solutions that truly resonate with them. As National Apprenticeship Week continues, we’re excited to spotlight another incredible colleague who recently started their apprentice journey. Daniela Faubel, Talent Development Trainer at Hyatt Regency London – The Churchill shares how the course is helping her grow and how she applies the learnings into her role as a trainer. 🔸 What apprenticeship are you doing? I'm doing a Learning and Development apprenticeship, where I’m learning how to design and deliver training programmes. Although my background is in Housekeeping, this apprenticeship is helping me to develop skills in creating learning experiences, understanding how adults learn, and using different tools to support learners. I’m also learning how training can improve employee performance and engagement within the company. 🔸 Has there been a highlight in the course so far, or how do you think this apprenticeship will help your career? I think this apprenticeship will help me grow and develop in my career and give me a fresh view on training needs and delivery. It’s giving me both knowledge and practical experience, which will help me build a strong base to develop a career in Learning & Development or HR.
