Should we have less sinks in hospitals? Sinks are a critical part of healthcare environments, but what if they’re also contributing to hospital-acquired infections (HAIs)? A study analyzing 552 intensive care units (ICUs) found that the presence of sinks in patient rooms was associated with a higher incidence of HAIs. So, should we reduce the number of sinks in hospitals? We know that design plays a crucial role in infection prevention so here’s some ways we can make sinks safer: ✅ Offset waste outlets to prevent splash-back contamination ✅ Seamless, easy-to-clean surfaces that reduce biofilm buildup ✅ Non-touch taps to minimize hand-contact transmission ✅ Correct placement away from high-risk zones to prevent aerosol spread What are your thoughts? Have you seen design-led improvements that enhance IPC in hospital wash areas? Let us know in the comments 💬👇 #sinks #IPC #healthcarefurniture #safety

A very insightful event at the Future HealthSpaces innovation hub yesterday. The topic of standardisation in healthcare was explored from reviews of current projects to designing adaptable spaces for evolving clinical needs. Here are some of our key takeaways: 1. Full product mock-ups are essential for stakeholders, including clinical staff, to provide thorough feedback. 2. Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) risks must be central to any design, with clinical function as a primary driver. 3. Learnings from the education and aviation sectors emphasise the importance of supply chain data consistency and digital information management. A huge thanks to all the speakers and contributors including Garry Fannon FCIOB, Corin Godsmark, Geoff Southern, Adam Fahn, Harley Flett and Robert Watson for sharing their experiences. It was great to hear from a diverse sector representation and listen to the needs of different stakeholders in healthcare construction. Listening to healthcare is what we do best. #healthcare #listening #networking #standardisation

🚨 The Dirty Truth About Hospital Contamination 🚨 Hospitals should be places of healing, but they’re also breeding grounds for dangerous infections. Every year, 300,000 UK patients develop hospital-acquired infections (HCAIs), adding 11 extra days to their hospital stay. But where do all these infections come from? Our latest blog explores the areas where bacteria thrives and spreads fastest in hospitals - https://lnkd.in/ewa_VviA By identifying and addressing high-risk infection hotspots, hospitals can take proactive steps to reduce HCAIs, protect patients, and ease the burden on hospital staff. #HCAIs #infections #IPC #healthcare

Is traditional healthcare shelving hygienic? Absolutely not. Spur shelving has been a go-to in healthcare for years, but is it really the best option for infection control? Dust traps, hard-to-clean crevices, and open exposure to contaminants—these aren't things you want in a clinical setting. So, what is the most hygienic shelving for healthcare? A hole-less shelving system that is: ✅ Seamless - easy to clean surface with no holes ✅ Modular - repurpose and move anywhere leaving no damage to walls ✅ Manufactured offsite and delivered fully assembled To learn more about the Hygenius shelving system, visit: https://lnkd.in/eUMHVkzC #infectioncontrol #shelving #healthcare
