Building a Vibrant Community of Start-Ups to Scale-Ups through The Start-Up Awards & The 'Grammys of Entrepreneurship'—Great British Entrepreneur Awards & Fast Growth 50 Index & Ideas Fest AKA Glastonbury for Business
Our first few gazebos have been booked for Ideas Fest 2025 already this week.
We officially go live with these on Friday, if you want to be sent the link and showcase and exhibit to 4,000 entrepreneurs let me know 🙌
Jo Dalton & James Watt's talk at Ideas Fest was such a highlight for us and many at Ideas Fest! 😎
We cannot wait to welcome you all back in 2025 for another knockout event.
P.S Don't forget- you have until midnight on the 31st October to grab your early bird tickets 🎟️
The lovely people at Ideas Fest have asked me to write about my favourite moment from the festival as the deadline for early bird tickets for next year's festival draws near - of course, I had to say the chance to interview James Watt live on the main stage 🔥
As you’ll know, James is a total visionary, so as one of the UK’s leading entrepreneurs - when he talks, we listen and learn!
With 17 years of experience (and a few battle scars) as Co-Founder of BrewDog, I sat down with James as talked about building disruptive brands, navigating exits, and diving into his latest venture, Social Tip 💥
For those that missed it, here are 3 of James’ top takeaways for aspiring founders and seasoned entrepreneurs alike:
⏱️ Master focused time: Block time for big, distraction-free thinking. James dedicates 3 hours of deep work to tackle big problems every week - armed with just a notepad at his analogue desk - and it’s game-changing ✨
⚡ Speed is key: Think in dog years. Move fast, make mistakes, fix them even faster, keep learning, and move on. The goal? Achieve in 1 day what others do in 7 ✨
👀 Obsess over everything: Forget the ‘don’t sweat the small stuff’ advice, it’s useless. In his eyes, every founder should obsess over every detail ✨
And a bonus hiring tip (spoken like a true ex-trawlerman): In calm seas, everyone looks like a superstar. Ask yourself - who do you want next to you in a force 10 storm? ⚓

One of the most honest and moving conversations I’ve ever been part of 👇
One of the standout moments for me of 2024 so far was having the privilege of interviewing Al Barratt and Juliet Barratt, the incredible founders of Grenade at Ideas Fest.
I’ve had the pleasure of knowing both Alan and Juliet for over seven years through the Great British Entrepreneur Awards, and they’ve become friends.
So, when I asked them to speak at Ideas Fest and they accepted, I was thrilled!
Little did I know the conversation would take a direction I hadn’t expected…
When they suggested their topic be ‘How Not to Be Married,’ I was surprised to learn they were no longer together. I’d not seen anything online or even on their socials about it but wow, they were prepared to talk about it on stage and trust me with asking the right questions 💜
What followed was one of the most honest, candid, and moving conversations I’ve ever been part of. And this was the first time they had ever spoken publicly about it.
Alan and Juliet shared their journey of building Grenade into a powerhouse brand while navigating the personal challenges of their relationship.
Their openness, trust, and willingness to talk about the breakdown of their marriage, all while celebrating their friendship and the exciting new ventures they’re both pursuing, was truly inspiring.
Thank you, Alan and Juliet, for your generosity and for trusting me and the Ideas Fest audience with your story.
