Across Talking Therapies services, we’ve seen real progress. More people self-referring, more awareness of services, more pathways to care. In theory, the front door is wider than ever. But here’s the paradox: as access improves, waiting lists often get longer, not shorter. 🔵 More referrals mean more demand than services were originally designed for. 🔵 Increased awareness means people seek help earlier, which is a success but one that needs capacity to match. 🔵 Expanding access without expanding workforce and infrastructure puts pressure on the system, stretching wait times even further. This is what we discussed in our recent webinar. Some of the strategies that came up: ✅ Flexible therapy options: typed therapy, group interventions, and stepped care to offer early support where possible. ✅ Early engagement with patients: keeping them connected to services while they wait to reduce dropouts. ✅ Smarter triage: ensuring those who need care most urgently get seen first, while others can be supported in different ways. How is your service balancing these challenges? We'll share the full webinar in our Transforming Talking Therapies newsletter later in March. 🔗 Link to sign up here: www.iesogroup.com/ttt

🕘 In 48 hours time, we’ll be bringing together leaders from NHS Talking Therapies to discuss practical approaches to reducing waiting lists without compromising quality. We know the challenges: 🟢 Demand is rising, and capacity is stretched. 🟢 Long waits affect recovery rates and patient engagement. 🟢 Clinicians are feeling the pressure, and services are working at their limits. This session is about sharing real examples of what’s working, what’s not, and what we’ve learned. 👂 You'll hear from Kerry Coker - Associate Clinical Director for Psychological Services at Essex Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust 👂 and John Warwick - Area Service Manager from Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. If waiting lists are an issue in your service, this is your last chance to register. We'd love to welcome you! 📅 Webinar: Thursday 27th February | 9.15-10.00am 📍 Link to register: https://lnkd.in/ezS_YkXz

Waiting lists for mental health care are more than just an admin challenge. Patients who wait too long are less likely to recover. The data shows a crucial 3.5-week window - miss it, and recovery rates start to fall. 📉 Patients waiting over 140 days have just a 40% chance of recovery. And we pay for long waits in other ways: 🔵 Many drop out before they even start. Some services report up to 30% of patients disengaging before their first session. 🔵 Fifty to seventy percent of CBT therapists report burnout symptoms 🔵 Every untreated patient costs Talking Therapy providers and the wider economy, e.g. sick leave, GP visits, crisis care etc. Tomorrow, in ieso's Transforming Talking Therapies email, we'll unpack the full range of costs and issues. 📌 Sign up before 3:30pm tomorrow to get the full break down of the cost of waiting lists, landing in inboxes [tomorrow] at 4pm: www.iesogroup.com/ttt --- PS: Next Thursday 27th February, we’re inviting NHS services who have successfully reduced waiting times to share real-world examples and experience. There are a handful of spaces left - we'll drop the link for this in the comments too.

There’s a real paradox in mental health services right now. 📈 Talking Therapies services are under huge pressure - more demand than ever, new national metrics and an overburdened workforce. All of this is extending waiting times. But long waiting times can mean patients who really need the help are disengaging or getting much worse while they wait (making it harder and more expensive to get better). Once people are waiting 6+ weeks, we know that treatment is less likely to be effective.[1]. And what's more, long perceived wait times can put people off from coming forward. When you’re feeling terrible and just getting through hour-by-hour - then waiting a week, a month, three months is a long time. Clinical teams are working night and day to bring down wait lists – and we've partnered with many trusts to help alleviate this exact issue and clear waiting lists quickly and safely. But there are lots of considerations to bear in mind, so we've invited NHS Talking Therapy services to share their experiences and learnings with our community. 📌 Reserve your free ticket for our 27 February webinar, 9:15-10am: https://lnkd.in/ezS_YkXz

Proud to see ieso investor Sherry Coutu CBE representing digital mental health innovation at this week's UK government AI summit. 🙌 Companies like ieso are leading the way and showing the world how safe, effective digital solutions can transform healthcare access and equity. This is exactly why investing in digital mental health matters. #DigitalHealth #AI #MentalHealth
Founder of interactive investor, F4S, Digital Boost, & the Scaleup Institute. Chair, SID & FTSE 100 NED. Mother, Entrepreneur & Angel using tech to help build a better world. Sector agnostic. Views my own…
🧠 The UK government gathered founders, civil servants and investors together yesterday as part of their continuing focus on AI and belief in its transformational potential. Poppy Gustafsson & Keir Starmer shared the pace with which the government are already implementing some of Matt Clifford’s 50 recommendations, the impact they are having in health and social care and finished with what felt like a very genuine invitation to input to and get involved in the governments plans. I was pleased to be there representing Beam, F4S, ieso,Digital Boost, Closed Loop Medicine and some of the other AI-first companies I have invested in. It was a pleasure to be able to support 👨💻 Alex Stephany to present Beam to the Prime Minister and kind of Keir to refer to our work with magic notes in his comments. It was excellent to be in a room filled with fellow entrepreneurs & policy experts all determined that we make sure that the benefits and value created by AI are distributed as widely as possible and that this shift does not further exacerbate inequities.

UPDATE: The webinar date has moved from the 13th Feb to the 27th Feb. If you’ve got a long or large wait list on your hands for your Talking Therapies service, tackling this all in one go is very tempting ... sign up a provider and the waitlist is gone! And there is definitely some truth to that. But we all know that waitlist interventions need to: ✅ be safe ✅ make it very easy for patients to engage with ✅ get people who are struggling into treatment, fast ✅ AND give patients the same or better a chance of recovering. In our 27th February webinar, we’re spotlighting NHS TT services who have successfully done a waitlist intervention. These NHS TT leaders will share with you: 📊 the strategy they used to clear their waitlist 🚀 how quickly patients got into treatment and the impact on the rest of the service 💗 how many waitlist patients they were able to treat and how quickly the backlog was cleared 📈 the recovery outcomes for those patients who received earlier treatment 🌟 the lessons they learnt and what they wish they’d known before they started… And you can pepper them with questions of your own 🙂 We have limited spaces so please book early. 📍 Get your free ticket here: https://lnkd.in/ezS_YkXz

ieso reposted this
ieso Digital Health, a Cambridge-based leader in digital mental healthcare, has appointed a new CEO to steer commercialisation of its products in the United States. Kent Tangen has more than 25 years experience building and scaling businesses across healthcare, financial services, retail, supply chain, media, and education. His career is marked by his ability to lead global teams through pivotal moments including mergers, acquisitions, digital transformation, and rapid growth. ieso’s digital-first product, the ieso Digital Program, is being piloted in the US on the back of a successful UK clinical trial. Tangen said: “Mental healthcare is facing a watershed moment. The gap between those who need care and those who can access it grows wider every day. I can think of no greater humanitarian, healthcare or economic challenge of our time than solving the global mental health crisis. “At ieso, we’re not just building technology for technology’s sake – we’re developing solutions that can help the one in five American adults who live with mental illness and the one in eight people worldwide who do.” For 20 years, ieso has been one of the UK’s largest providers of online mental health treatment to the NHS, bringing therapist-delivered, text-based cognitive behavioural therapy to more than 135,000 NHS patients and building the world’s largest outcomes-indexed mental health data set. Ieso’s AI-driven platform, built on insights from 750,000+ therapy hours and rigorous clinical research, is said to deliver faster results, more affordably and at scale.
