It’s a big day for us as we release our Annual Report and sustainability-related reporting for the 2023/24 financial year. A few highlights from this year, which you can read more about in the reports:   ⏳ 𝟮𝟬 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 We’re celebrating 20 years of investing the NZ Super Fund. This is a special milestone for us, as our long-term performance expectations are all based on 20-year rolling averages. We’re proud to have exceeded our benchmarks, delivering a 10.0% p.a. return over these two decades.   📈 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 Our return of 14.9% for the financial year was driven largely by our equity investments, both passive and active. The NZ Super Fund as a whole returned just less than our passive Reference Portfolio benchmark, which returned 15.1%. Since the Fund began investing, our active investment approach has generated $17 billion more than a passive approach would have done on its own.   🌏 𝗢𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝘁 “𝗴𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝗯𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗽𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲” 𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹 We received the latest of our five-yearly independent statutory reviews, commissioned by The Treasury - New Zealand on behalf of the Government. The reviewer, WTW, found we are operating at global best practice level, giving high ratings to our investment process, governance and organisational culture.   🎯 𝗚𝘂𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗮𝗻𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 We introduced a new organisational strategy, Guardians of the Future, which will guide our work in the years to come. Under this strategy we now focus our efforts in four areas: 1️⃣ Strengthen our investment approach 2️⃣ Optimise our organisation 3️⃣ Maximise our team and culture’s potential 4️⃣ Enhance our external presence   🌊 𝗘𝗻𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝘀𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 Along with our Annual Report, we’ve also released our Climate Change Report, Carbon Footprint, and our first-ever Stewardship Report today. These reports show how we’ve worked to invest sustainably along with delivering great returns.   For more information about our year in review, check out the documents on our website 👉 https://lnkd.in/gUGWZT86

I am pleased to share my latest article, "The trio of risks reshaping SWF strategies," published today in fDi Intelligence, a Financial Times bi-monthly publication. This article covers a crucial topic relevant to finance and investment policy professionals, particularly those interested in long-term investment capital, sovereign wealth funds, and radical global uncertainties. In this short piece, I ask how SWFs are navigating current times while building portfolio resilience. This issue will be at the forefront of the discussions at the upcoming IFSWF (International Forum of Sovereign Wealth Funds) Annual Meeting in Muscat (hosted by the Oman Investment Authority), 'Embracing Disruption and Searching for Resilient Futures,' making this article a timely and relevant read. I make a compelling call to 'recipient' countries actively seeking SWF investments to take proactive measures to foster inclusivity and openness; in today’s fragmented world, ensuring investment capital's free flow is paramount to preventing further global economic disintegration. If recipient countries aspire to attract SWF capital, grow, and fortify their economies, they must establish an environment facilitating these crucial capital flows. Long-term and sustainable investing is not just a responsibility of an SWF but also of countries and businesses that will use those funds. I sincerely thank FT/fdi Senior Editor Danielle Myles and the team for their dedication to maintaining a high-quality platform. Their efforts make this publication a valuable resource for professionals striving to stay ahead in today’s intricate and rapidly changing investment landscape. 📈 👉 Read the article here: https://lnkd.in/dBySckrK #FDIIntelligence #FinancialTimes #SWFs #Geopolitics #Resilience #RecipientCountries #IFSWF #Muscat #InvestmentStrategy #EconomicIntegration #GlobalEconomy #OIA #IMF
