It's another Spotlight edition! Our Spotlight articles aim to shine a light on the people that make up the Industry and Innovation Research Institute (I2Ri). Alongside the BreakThru Research podcast on Spotify (link 👉 https://lnkd.in/e3ZDmagh) hosted by Márjory Da Costa-Abreu, we hope this will be a great way to celebrate our successes and get to know our researchers more. In this edition, we caught up with Bağdagül Karaağaç to find out a bit more about her and her work as a visiting researcher in I2Ri. Prof Karaağaç is a scientist with expertise on rubber materials, particularly on sustainable compound design, recycling, and interphase modification, work which aligns well with our own research aspirations. Her work mostly focuses on turning scientific knowledge to innovative solutions to industrial problems. In her words, "I am really impressed by Sheffield Hallam University’s perspective, which focuses on turning scientific knowledge to innovative solutions to industrial problems. I believe that we can develop a continuous and very efficient collaboration between Sheffield Hallam and my home institute Kocaeli University." In this edition, Dr Susan Campbell shares how her research can lead to novel biomarkers and therapeutic targets for disease. Dr. Campbell was appointed Senior Lecturer at Sheffield Hallam in 2013 and teaches across a range of undergraduate and postgraduate modules across the Biosciences degree programmes. Her research interests focus on understanding how cells regulation protein synthesis during stress and disease. She is also a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, the Postgraduate Tutor for the Biomolecular Sciences Research Centre and the local ambassador for the Biochemical Society. In her words, "Within my research I am interested in how cells activate signalling pathways in response to stress and how these pathways become dysregulated or altered during chronic stress or disease.” Click here👉 https://lnkd.in/eqXrfj_q to read the full article and find out more about her inspiration, turning point in her career, opportunities to collaborate with her, and many more!
