Updates

  • The Inertia NDT team partnered with a new client recently undertaking a combination of concrete scanning methods including ground penetrating radar (GPR) using the Proceq GP8000 and concrete scanning using the Hilti PS300 ferrocan system. Both these instruments, combined with construction drawings provided by the client and our experienced technicians and engineers, enabled our team to accurately confirm the position of embedded post tensioned tendons and reinforcement. This critical information will allow core holes for lifting points to be located away from reinforcement and tendons to allow the safe and secure lifting of the structure for replacement. Another great example of the combination of industry leading knowledge and equipment being used in combination!

  • The Inertia Consulting Inspection and NDT team were busy this week carrying out concrete testing to a pre-cast portal frame structure with the aim of providing data on corrosion risk in accordance with CS 462 ‘Repair and management of deteriorated concrete highway structures’. On site testing included:- - Hammer / visual survey - Half-cell potential mapping - Reinforcement cover survey - Depth of carbonation - Electrical resistivity - Chloride contamination Test information gathered in this type of survey is crucial in assessing the condition of a structure and the likelihood of reinforcement corrosion in areas of vulnerability. It also determines the extent of deteriorated concrete and can enable prediction of maintenance intervention points. Nice work team. 👌

  • It was a pleasure to be invited to present a guest lecture at Cambridge University on the subject of bridge engineering and to support the fantastic work that Cambridge University Engineering Society (CUES) do for students. It was particularly refreshing to speak to students and staff after the lecture to hear about their research topics as well as the student and academic run initiatives. We look forward to continuing to support CUES and Cambridge University Students!
