Absolutely incredible talk today from one of our home finding officers, Joey on #ANDYSMANCLUB#ANDYSMANCLUB Andy's man club is a free peer-to-peer group that provides a place for men to come together in a safe and open environment to talk about the issues that they have faced or are currently facing. Andy's Man Club has over 100 locations across the UK and is growing. Their goal is for every man to be within a half hour drive of a local branch. Joey Jones runs the Southport branch of Andy's Man Club and wanted to take world mental health day as an opportunity to bring awareness to the club as a brilliant support opportunity for staff and young people 18+. Empowering young people to make positive choices and understand the importance of coping skills and self-care. 👥 Community Engagement: We take a collaborative approach to supporting young people’s mental health through multiagency working and supporting young people to build an interdependence networking that can support their journey to adulthood and mental wellbeing. 🫶🏻 Early Intervention: We recognise that early identification and intervention significantly improves mental health outcomes, which is why our support teams have a proactive approach supporting young people directly, as well as signposting them to appropriate external support services. 🌞 Holistic Wellbeing: Our approach to mental wellbeing is also supported through our understanding that young people’s physical and emotional health can adversely and positively impact their mental health. That is why we support young people to identify and engage with activities that boost their overall wellbeing, such as exercise, arts and crafts, and social engagement. 📚Continuous Training: Our support teams undergo regular training sessions to ensure they are equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to support our young people and their mental health needs. Dr Miriam Silver (BERRI) – Dr Silver will be presenting on the risk profiles of young people in supported accommodation, and how they differ from children within residential. Delivering a thought-provoking assessment of need based on risk and support. Dez Holmes (Research in Practice & National Children's Bureau) – Dez will be bringing her expertise in transitional safeguarding and sharing vital insights on how this impacts care experienced young people in particular. Missing People – a brilliant session with a key focus on supporting care experienced young people who go missing from home, the push and pull factors, and why return home interviews are so important. Catch22: NLCBF & YPBF – This incredible cohort of young people will be taking to the stage to share what matters most to the young people of today, and how we can better support their needs in 5 key areas. Catch22 - National Leaving Care Benchmarking Forum & the Young Peoples Benchmarking Forum. The session will cover: Over 2024, care experienced individuals involved with YPBMF decided on some key areas effecting care experienced individuals that needed to improve and required senior decision & policy makers to be involved with helping to make the change. YPBMF selected 5 areas, designed a survey, and circulated it to care experienced individuals across the UK. They received over 200 responses which have been analysed and turned into reports and workshops. This session shares the highlights from the 5 co-produced reports with key local and national asks for those involved with improving the lives of care experienced individuals. 📣 About The National Leaving Care Benchmarking Forum A Forum of over 130 local authority leaving care teams, working together to share good practice & improve services & support for care experienced young people. 📣 About The Young People’s Benchmarking Forum We are the heart of the National Leaving Care Benchmarking Forum (NLCBF). Our main aim is to ensure that the voices of care experienced young people are heard loud and clear, as well as to help shape the decisions and priorities of the forum.
