Catching up today after an excellent week at The International Fire Training Centre undertaking my Low Category Aerodrome Supervisor certification. A wholly excellent course which was very heavy on incident management, promoting safe working in an inherently dangerous and unpredictable environment and managing inter working that is inherent with this sort of work. The facilities the centre themselves have for use in a variety of scenarios is excellent and we didn't tackle the same incident twice, each one curated to make us think differently and seed healthy discussion in debriefs afterwards. It was also just good fun to get on the branch an bit, bowl out the hoses and do some firefighting to be quite honest! What I found most interesting however was how some of the skills I have learnt from my own background were immediately applicable to these scenarios and how much of the incident command element of the course can be applied to a range of situations where you'd need to be able to dynamically assess a scenario and decide on your tactics for resolution, whether that be an aircraft incident in the role of a crew commander, a medical incident as a medical incident manager or an event crisis as an event safety manager, the core themes all correlate and it was good to flex my brain matter a bit in determining best approach, as well as seeing and hearing other's thought processes with their own unique experience. Thanks to Ray Booth GIFireE and his fellow trainers for an excellent week of tuition and for sharing your lived experiences and the lessons you've learnt. #fire #aviation #aviationsafety #aerodromesupervisor #firefighting #safety #training

Your fire service personnel know what to do and how to do it in the event of an emergency. But you know that running a fire station is about so much more. It’s about leadership, planning, delivery and improvement. Do your current managers have the skills and knowledge to manage people, resources and risk? And the people in your talent pool who are part of your succession plans? To book a place on this course please call our team on 01325 333 317 or email bookings@iftc.co.uk

If there was one key message coming out of last week's Electric Vehicle maritime safety conference, it was the need for training. Our new member: The International Fire Training Centre, has developed a course specifically for the maritime industry dealing with EV fires on vehicle decks. Visit: https://lnkd.in/eB53ybJz
