🤝 Democratic wellbeing in Northern Ireland is at a worryingly low level. Our consultation response to the NI Executive's 'Programme For Government' outlines how a strategic approach to participation and deliberation is key to addressing the democratic deficit in Northern Ireland. ❓The 'Programme for Government’ is a draft proposal from the Executive on how they will move forward on priorities for making 'a real difference to the lives of people' in Northern Ireland. 🗣️In response to their consultation, our Head of Northern Ireland, Rebekah McCabe, makes the case for a new approach that embeds civic engagement. 👇 📑 Why? Because top-down policy making doesn’t work. It engenders distrust, frustration and disengagement by the public, and results in ineffective, disconnected policies, delays in implementation, and wasted resources. ⏰The Northern Ireland Executive can use this opportunity to build democratic resilience, and work with citizens directly to tackle the big problems of our time. ✏️ There are already good foundations to build on, and it can happen quickly with the right leadership and a mix of innovation, support, capacity building and, in some cases, legislating for citizen engagement in the policy areas that impact the most on the lives of people in NI now, and on future generations. The School for Everyday Democracy - Partnership Opportunity Particularly proud of this project, having worked closely with Carly Walker-Dawson and Stephanie Wong to develop the idea in the early days. And now, due to the hard work of many in both Involve and Act Build Change, it exists! As part of the work, we're looking for a monitoring, evaluation and learning partner to help us make sure it has the impact we're hoping for. *About the project* Involve and Act Build Change are partnering to deliver a programme that will support 100 people to become Everyday Democracy Champions. Funded by The National Lottery Community Fund, The School for Everyday Democracy will work to build the power of people to deliver common good in their communities, and beyond. Our democracy thrives when people have the skills, connections, and opportunities to influence what matters most to them. We aim to shift the balance of power throughout the UK, creating opportunities for more individuals to drive social change in their communities. We call this 'everyday democracy.' *What are we looking for?* Experienced individuals or organisations who can create and deliver independent monitoring and evaluation of the project. The total budget for this piece of work is up to £45,000, including VAT. Please share with anyone you think might be interested! https://lnkd.in/ecffdas6
