On World Menopause Day, we’re encouraging employers to create supportive environments where people feel comfortable discussing the menopause. Lasting two to 10 years, perimenopause and menopausal transition come before reaching menopause. Women often experience unpleasant symptoms during this time. New Interim Chair appointed for IOSH Board of Trustees IOSH’s Council has appointed Bobby Chakravarthy as the Interim Chair of the Institution’s Board of Trustees. The appointment was agreed during the two-day meeting of Council, IOSH’s member representative body, from 9-10 October. Bobby has been an Independent Trustee on the IOSH Board since November 2020. He specialises in business strategy and strategic management, and has experience in campaigns, funding, capital investment and business development. As Interim Chair, he will oversee delivery of IOSH’s strategy Activate 2028, while a thorough recruitment process is conducted to appoint a new, permanent Chair. This appointment follows the resignation of existing Chair Professor Peter Bonfield. He was Chair since February 2021 and was instrumental in developing the existing five-year IOSH strategy, which was launched in April 2023. We’d like to take this opportunity to welcome Bobby as the new Interim Chair of IOSH’s Board of Trustees and to thank Peter for his leadership of the Institution.

On World Mental Health Day, we’re collaborating with our partners in the OSH Stakeholder Alliance to tackle workplace mental health risks. Globally, 12 billion working days are lost to depression and anxiety every year. In Great Britain, 875,000 people are suffering from work-related stress, depression or anxiety. To help address this concerning issue, the Alliance has launched a new white paper which sets out several recommendations for the UK government, businesses and OSH professionals.
