International Road Assessment Programme: Supporting 3-star or better journeys for all road users.
About us
The International Road Assessment Programme (iRAP) is a registered charity dedicated to preventing the more than 3,500 road deaths that occur every day worldwide. iRAP partners with governments, mobility clubs, development banks, research institutes and road safety NGOs in 90 countries to provide the tools and training to make roads safe. Our vision if for a world free of high risk roads. iRAP works in partnership with government and non-government organisations to: • inspect high-risk roads and develop Star Ratings and Safer Roads Investment Plans • provide training, technology and support that will build and sustain national, regional and local capability • track road safety performance so that funding agencies can assess the benefits of their investments. iRAP is financially supported by the FIA Foundation for the Automobile and Society and the Road Safety Fund. Projects receive support from the World Bank Global Road Safety Facility, automobile associations, regional development banks and donors. National governments, automobile clubs and associations, charities, the motor industry and institutions such as the European Commission also support RAPs in the developed world and encourage the transfer of research and technology to iRAP. In addition, many individuals donate their time and expertise to support iRAP.

🔔 Recording now available! Participants from 54 countries tuned in last week for the 11th #RAPKnowledgeLive session – A key to safer roads. In this session, participants learned how to use the Star Rating for Designs (#SR4D) tool to assess and improve road safety by evaluating road designs and identifying high-risk areas, ensuring #saferinfrastructure for all #roadusers. New innovative enhancements to the SR4D web app provide a more powerful toolset for creating and editing road geometry streamlining the design process; new capability to import images and mapping files for precise geo-location; improved dataset management; and capability to submit datasets for quality assurance, further improving the integrity of road safety assessments in meeting the 3-star or better global standard and UN Target 3 for new roads. Thanks to our #SR4D Exerts James Bradford and Marko Sevrovic for facilitating the session! Franco Azzato Paz Watch the recording of this session here https://lnkd.in/gaF92PTc

#CycleRAPNews: 🚴♂️ 🚴♀️ Automóvel Club de Portugal (ACP), supported by Lane Patrol and the FIA – Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile, has commenced a project to assess the road safety of 40 km of Lisbon’s cycling network applying the #CycleRAP methodology. The club aims to evaluate the existing network in order to provide technical support for potential changes to be implemented in the coming years. The results will inform prioritised investment plans and the development of a simulation tool to support the construction of new sections of cycle infrastructure, taking into account improved road safety and user appeal. We love this! Thank you Faith Ego for participating in our Women in Engineering Grants programme! 👏
Transportation Engineer |Sustainable Engineering| Project Management Professional (PMP) | Climate Resilient Infrastructure Officer(CRIO)
I recently had the chance to dive into road safety tools through iRAP's training, and it was thought-provoking. One standout moment was when the trainer posed a question: Would an engineer design a high-rise building with balconies that have no rails? The answer is a resounding no! After all, to err is human, and this needs to be factored. So, why should our roads be any different? Think about it: a crash at 100 km/h is like taking a tumble from the 13th floor—survival chances aren’t great. This really highlights the need for road designs that account for human error, ensuring that mistakes don’t have deadly consequences. A big shoutout to the iRAP team for the Women in Engineering Grant that made it possible for me to take the Star Rating Essentials Course. Your work is truly making a difference! #gratitudepost #roadsafety #womeninengineering #iRAP
