As part of National Conveyancing Week, we wanted to address the common confusion surrounding source of funds in the Residential Property purchase process. If you are thinking of buying a house, including using money from savings, this blog will help you to prepare your documents to evidence your deposit: 📝 Many people who have instructed a Conveyancing Solicitor will know that you will be asked to provide details of your overall wealth and proof of where your money has come from. 💷 Whether it’s from savings, an inheritance, a gift from family or such other means; during the legal process, we’ll ask you to show us how you received the money or, in other words, can you verify your source of wealth and funds? 👨⚖️ We understand that this could feel a little bit uncomfortable, especially when you are making a significant lifetime decision such as buying a home but knowing where your money has come from is a vital legal requirement in the process. ✔️ We have a legal duty to make sure that money that is to be used for your matter has not been obtained through illegal channels. ❌ If we failed to ask you for this proof, the person working on your matter could be subject to criminal charges and our business is liable for large fines. 🙅 Every law firm in the country must do this – so please bear with us – we know it’s not ideal! It was a fantastic session filled with great discussions, insightful questions, and practical advice on building impactful CVs.
