KES International

In September, I had the privilege of attending the 28th International Conference on Knowledge-Based and Intelligent Information & Engineering Systems (#KES2024 - KES International) in the beautiful city of Seville. It was an intense yet rewarding experience that included three presentations and, which was a great experience, organising and chairing the Invited Session “Exploring the Future of Intelligent Portable, Wearable, and Mobile Solutions: Advancements, Applications, and Challenges.” And I even unexpectedly ended up chairing one more session! 😀 The conference with its engaging talks was a fantastic platform for exchanging ideas and fostering connections. I’d like to express my gratitude to the KES team, especially Jonathan Flearmoy, for the outstanding organisation. And the city of Seville is always a great place to stay 😉 A heartfelt thanks to all the participants and authors in our Invited Session, including Kristina Lacasta López, Daria K., Tobias Schiele, Daniel Velez, Ángel Serrano Alarcón, Ralph Martín Starke, Natividad Martínez Madrid, Juan Antonio Ortega, Ph.D., Ralf Seepold, and many others, - you made this interesting Session possible! And, of course, special thanks to my colleagues Wilhelm Daniel Scherz, Simone Orcioni, and Massimo Conti for their valuable collaboration in organising the Session. I’m eager to apply what I’ve learned and look forward to reconnecting at KES2025!

**A high level conference in a nice place to visit** The motto of KES International conference by Prof. Robert J Howlett perfectly summarises the 2024 edition of the SDM-SEB conferences held in the past days in Madeira, Portugal. Together with my brilliant Ph.D. fellow Valentina Ventura, we shared research works and ideas on Industrial Symbiosis, Sustainable Lean Manufacturing, Power Energy System Expansion Grids and Early Defect Prediction in Manufacturing with a network of international junior and senior researchers that enthusiastically make high-level research on sustainability around the world. A deep sense of gratitude goes to my young talents Valentina Ventura, Cristian Cafarella, Ludovica Diletta Naldi and Michele Ronchi that actively work on these topics with me, Dr. Francesco Gabriele Galizia and our group at Dipartimento di Ingegneria Industriale - Università di Bologna. Thanks also to Beatrice Colombo and Paolo Gaiardelli from Bergamo University that started a “university symbiosis with us on the symbiosis topic”. Happy to have been there ... dear wonderful Madeira’s landscapes and … “may the KES be with us” also next year in Catania, in the south of my beloved country.

Smart Digital Futures 2024 conference started today with an excellent keynote from Ivan Macia. This years conference is fully hybrid event with sessions blended with online and in person. The conference is being held at the VILA GALÉ HOTÉIS in Santa Cruz we can highly recommend as it is perfect destination for conferences
