  • The academic year has come to a close, with students and staff from the Recovery and Wellbeing College gathering across Kent and Medway to celebrate achievements and milestones. In Maidstone, students gathered at Tyland Barn for a day with Kent Wildlife Trust, enjoying pond dipping and a shared lunch. They reflected on their memories and how the college has empowered them. Suzanne Middleton-Elliott, Maidstone Locality Co-ordinator, shared: “We are so proud of each of our students. Everyone’s journey is different, but each milestone was celebrated." Over in Ashford, the sunny day at The Limes Community Garden saw students touring the beautiful grounds, learning how it has grown and changed over the year. The woodland nature reminded students that recovery and growth takes time, but with the right care and support, people can thrive. In Thanet, students celebrated at Arts in Ramsgate, enjoying colouring, word search puzzles and creating new connections. While in Canterbury, students reflected on their year, with one student sharing: “I have learned that I have the strength and resilience to survive the bad times and to build a life." What a fantastic year it’s been! You can find out more about our recovery college or enrol here: https://lnkd.in/emUxiwni

  • We want to change our name! We’ve spent a lot of time talking to the people we care for, the partners we work with and our staff about our trust and what people think of us. As part of this, we were told again and again that our current name is confusing and shares little connection with how people describe us or the services we provide. Mental health is the core service we offer – and we’re proud to be a mental health trust serving all of Kent and Medway – so we would like to change our name to Kent and Medway Mental Health NHS Trust. In choosing this name we have followed NHS England naming conventions and we think it more clearly explains what we do. We want to check if this name is clear and understandable to all of our audiences. Please let us know if you don’t think it is using this form: https://lnkd.in/eFcFG-hY

  • KMPT Clinical Audit & Effectiveness Team has been recognised in the latest Prescribing Observatory for Mental Health Quality Improvement (POMH QI) programme report. 💊 📃 The report features three examples of KMPT’s best practice, demonstrating how actions driven by national clinical audit projects can lead to significant improvements in patient care. Two of our QI initiatives were selected for national sharing based on their feasibility, demonstrated progress and potential to be adapted by other NHS Trusts: 1. Improving the quality of clozapine prescribing - Jag Bahia 2. Enhancing valproate prescribing in adult mental health services – Dr Chidi Nwosu Congratulations to everyone involved! 👏

Today, is the relaunch of Willow Gardens, a therapeutic space for patients in our MSU services where they enjoy gardening, growing crops, caring for animals and engaging with others. They have recently had a new cabin built, animals have had a new enclosures and there have been lots of other improvements to the outdoor space. Amazing work from all involved, and most importantly a fabulous space for patients to enjoy 🐐 🥕 🐓 🍇 Kent and Medway NHS & Social Care Partnership Trust

  • We're delighted to announce that KMPT Social Worker, Nic Jones, has been named a finalist for the Social Worker of the Year Award! 🌟 This fantastic recognition highlights Nic's dedication, especially through her work with the Rough Sleepers Initiative, a national pilot project supporting those who sleep rough or are at risk of homelessness. 🏠 Chosen by panels of independent judges, including past award winners, social workers and industry leaders, Nic stands among the best in the field. 🙌 Nigel Ashurst, Consultant Psychiatrist at KMPT, explained why Nic was nominated for the award: "Nic works as a social worker within the Rough Sleepers Initiative, a national pilot project that supports people who sleep rough or are at risk of homelessness. Her dedication to her work sees her out on early morning outreach with partner organisations every week, identifying and building relationships with people sleeping rough in Kent." "Alongside supporting the development of services in West Kent and building strong relationships with partner organisations such as TWBC and Porchlight, Nic champions and challenges the systems and processes within KMPT that are not necessarily designed for people who struggle to engage."
