Why Techwear is a gateway drug... Into conscious consumption. ♻ If you don't know already, techwear or gorp-core is clothing designed for wearing in the outdoors. Lightweight, breathable, and waterproof, it's designed to keep you comfortable whilst you're out exploring. 🏔 It boomed in Covid, as people were forced to ditch trips to the pubs for walks in the park. Suddenly how weatherproof your clothing mattered way more than what logo was plastered across your chest. But what's beautiful is trends like Techwear slowly but surely change what consumers value in clothing and their possessions 👕 Techwear makes you appreciate the intrinsic qualities of your clothing as well as the aesthetic. How robust is the material so it won't rip? How breathable but waterproof is it so I can stay dry but cool? Can I cinch in the waist or cuffs to keep it from snagging? How functional is the pocket closure so I can access it easily? How many times can I actually wear this piece outside before it falls apart? Once you start appraising all your purchases with a "techwear" mindset, you just can't stop. You find yourself scrutinising labels, materials, zips and pockets for every potential purchase. You really begin to understand why those fast fashion items are priced so low 🚮 And before you know it, this mindset extends into every purchase decision. Don't ask me how long I just spent researching my new water bottle. Sometimes debilitating? Yes. Has it made me a more conscious shopper? Definitely. And that's why I love how popular Techwear has become. It's a trend that is based on quality not solely aesthetics, making it so hard to imitate cheaply. It's a trend that isn't going anywhere, a trend that slowly educates consumers, a trend that can help tackle fashion's massive excess problem 🌟 What other "for-good" trends have you all seen recently?
