Education Management

For 93 years, Lathallan has provided an inspirational learning environment for young people. Nursery | Junior | Senior

About us

On 17th January 1930, five young boys (Alexander, Duke, Grace, Harrison and Price) wearing short trousers, caps and red and grey striped ties, were handed over by their trusting parents to the care of Lathallan School and this is where our story began. Lathallan today is an extraordinary co-educational nursery, junior and senior school for youngsters between the ages of 6 months and 18 years. Our school castle, boarding house and facilities are located within 60 acres of leafy grounds, on the North Sea coastline and this incredible setting provides unrivalled outdoor learning opportunities and a specious environment for pupils to explore and enjoy. We are elated to have been awarded UK Small Independent School of the Year 2021, recognising the quality of the student experience we offer. J1-J4 students had a visit from award-winning author Molly Arbuthnott, this afternoon 📚 Molly led a fun-filled workshop in which the children journeyed with Oscar, the adventurous Hebridean cat, and his city-slicker counterpart, Oscar the London Cat! The classrooms came alive with creativity as students dressed up and acted out scenes from the stories. We were delighted Molly called in to see us, winner of The Wishing Shelf Independent Book Award, ahead of her brand-new book launch! Keep an eye out for "Eddie the Duckling" hitting shelves in London this December and Edinburgh next February! Want to follow Molly's writing adventures? Scots Law Talks Crime, Law and Forensics Study Camp at Lathallan 🧑⚖️🧐🕵️♀️ It's been an incredible three days filled with exciting learning experiences, from exploring the commercialisation of crime in pop culture to trying our hand at police sketching and analysing crime reporting. On the final day, the students have donned their forensics suits and put their skills to the test, collecting fingerprints and practising forensic evidence recovery. Among the group is Annagayle (17), who would like to become an Advocate one day. Annagayle was excited to gain further insights into the Scottish criminal justice system. She was joined by Grace (16), who dreams of going into politics and making positive changes for Scotland. Grace already had a passion for criminology, so she was keen to explore the categorisation of crimes and to take part in our courtroom role plays. What an amazing experience all round! #ScotsLawTalks #CrimeLawForensics #LathallanSchool

As a school community, we are incredibly proud of Gus (J7) and his fundraising efforts for Breakthrough T1D UK! Gus raised over £1,000 to support vital research and bravely shared his journey with Type 1 Diabetes with over 200 people at a recent awareness event. Here are some of the words Gus shared: "My name is Gus, and I have been a Type 1 warrior since January 19th 2023. Prior to my diagnosis I had been unwell for several months with sickness, extreme exhaustion and was so thirsty, I was beginning to think I was a cactus in a previous life! That night, my parents rushed me to Aberdeen Children's Hospital, we were greeted by a team of doctors and nurses, all ready to save my life. They were incredible, and explained that I had an autoimmune condition called Type 1 Diabetes and needed insulin to make me feel well again. That week in hospital, we received an abundance of information, Mum was brushing up on her maths by counting carbs and Dad was searching in shops for snacks under 10g of carbs. This is when I met Rufus, the JDRF teddy, he was a great comfort when life seemed so worrying. Fast forward to life now, my family and I are hugely grateful to JDRF, now Breakthrough T1D, for the immensely important research they do and supporting young people like me to be able to fulfil our dreams through advanced technology. Nothing is holding me back from living a busy, amazing life…mostly on the rugby or football pitch!". Thank you, Gus, for your courage and for inspiring us every day at Lathallan!
