Leeds Digital Ball, giving back to the tech community in partnership with The Leeds Community Foundation.
About us
Celebrating the city’s growing tech and digital community, shining a spotlight on the importance of digital inclusion and raising funds for charitable organisations that aim to narrow the digital divide. Our 2024 Leeds Digital Ball will take place at the Royal Armouries Leeds on Thursday 9th May, at 7 pm. Following the 2022 and 2023 events, we've raised £160,000 for digital projects across the local community, and we hope to double the funds raised this year. The event is an occasion that shouldn’t be missed. Guests will be welcomed with cocktails and a three-course meal, have the opportunity to bid for some exclusive items in a charity auction and then dance to a live band as they come together to celebrate the Yorkshire digital and tech scene.

The Leeds Digital Ball is a blast, a brilliant opportunity to get together with industry peers, make new connections and have a great evening. But there’s much more to it than that, and here’s WHY you should get a ticket, a table or help through sponsorship You can have a great time & make new connections, while also doing a very good thing. The Highrise Project was set up to explore the links between architecture and social relations within municipal highrise buildings and council-built estates. The project uses ethnographic and creative research, which is co-produced with residents. As the project has grown, so has the projects mission, and this is now focused on bringing people together to explore ideas of place-making and community in general, incorporating ESOL and other forms of support as required to ensure that their workshops are accessible to everyone. Through this work, they use creativity and art to benefit communities, and as a way for people to tell their own stories and challenge stereotypes of people living in marginalized communities. This includes residents of social housing, migrant communities, unemployed people, and those with mental and physical health issues. Supporting participants to develop new and existing skills and give people a voice to affect change in their local area. VICTORIA KORTEKAAS Co-Director The Highrise Project spoke to the Leeds Community Foundation and shared her thoughts on how important these projects are. “The ability to provide digital arts workshops to Leeds residents has opened a wide range of new tools to our participants, from those with some digital experience to people who have never picked up a tablet before. It’s great to see the people we work with get excited about digital art and along the way learn ‘everyday’ digital skills.” Could you help a project have impact like this? As we prepare for 2025, let's take a moment to say a huge thank you to our 2024 Leeds Digital Ball sponsors! 🌟🌟🌟🌟 THANK YOU 🌟🌟🌟🌟 Because the funding you helped us to raise has a MASSIVE impact on local communities Hear how your support has helped Your Back Yard CIC to reach more people with their digital inclusion services! Your Back Yard helps people in deprived areas or belonging to marginalised groups, to access to services that allow them to live active and healthy lives. They work with schools, councils, and local charities to get people active by providing highly accessible activities such as, walking sports, guided walks, park-based activity programmes, and face-to-face exercise classes. Since the pandemic they offer free, live streamed exercise classes in partnership with Active Leeds, and run digital cafes to support older adults getting online. The Digital Inclusion Fund allowed Your Back Yard to hire a Digital Inclusion Officer to deliver Digital Inclusion cafes across Leeds. With this addition to the team they have been able to deliver these services in 3 new venues at OWLS in Headingley, Holt Park Active and MHA Beeston in South Leeds. They told us: “We are so proud to be able to offer this incredible service to older adults and people with disabilities, empowering people to feel more confident using digital devices. Our Digital Cafes include our Digital Inclusion Officer and our trained volunteers visiting a community venue each week teaching learners about their devices, we have people who work on their tablets phone and even laptops! We deliver both planned lessons and activities as well as drop in and 1-2-1 style support. We tailor our delivery to the venues and learners needs. We are able to provide learners with tablet devices should they need as well as support them by providing data. This funding has hugely impacted our organisation and heavily increased the capacity and quality of what we can proudly deliver. Thank you!” We are looking for sponsors for 2025 – If you want to be part of the solution to improve social and economic opportunity through digital inclusion, get in touch we’d love to hear from you! #DigitalInclusion #Accessforall #Equality #Leeds #Tech #Digital #Fundraising #Impact #CSR

The Leeds Community Foundation have invested £136k through the Leeds Digital Inclusion Fund to address the digital divide, from funds raised through the Leeds Digital Ball CIC and 100% Digital Leeds! Over the past 2 years, this has helped to fund 15 projects delivered by 12 locally-rooted community organisations to support people with the skills, knowledge and confidence they need to be active online, now and in the future. They’ve already worked with almost 600 people across the city, delivering 1:1 and group support sessions, using art to teach digital skills, training digital champions and so much more. One of the Burmantofts Community Friends project participants said “I love coming to Breakfast Club. I’ve got an iPhone and I’m given data so I can be online. This has made me feel happy and included. It’s a lovely group. The staff are very kind and helpful, they all make you feel at home.” The Leeds Digital Ball is incredibly proud of the partnership with the Leeds Community Foundation, and the positive impact this vital funding is creating for our communities. Leeds Community Foundation will soon be making awards with the funds raised from this year’s ball, so watch this space to see the latest projects to receive grants. 🌟 Advancing Digital Inclusion in Leeds 🌟 Last week, one of our committee members Sandra Patel had the honour of representing the Leeds Digital Ball at the Leeds Digital Inclusion Fund panel led by Leeds Community Foundation, and it was an eye-opening experience. She also had the pleasure of sitting with Councillor Abigail Marshall Katung Marhsall Katung, the Lord Mayor of Leeds, whose commitment to tackling digital exclusion in our city is truly inspiring. As panel members, the collective role was to review and recommend grants that will directly address digital exclusion in Leeds. What stood out most was the emphasis on fairness, respect, and local impact. Each application reflected the passion of those working tirelessly to bridge the digital divide, ensuring that everyone in Leeds has access to the digital world. The discussions were guided by the principles laid out by Leeds Community Foundation: to be fair, non-judgmental, and always mindful of the diverse needs of our community. The team focused on understanding the local needs and ensuring that every decision was made with the goal of creating meaningful, long-lasting change. All of the successful applicants will also be able to access support from the team at 100% Digital Leeds to make the most of their digital inclusion work. This experience reinforced why the work we do at the Leeds Digital Ball is so vital. The funds we raise go directly into the hands of those who are creating real, positive impact in our communities. Together with Leeds Community Foundation and 100% Digital Leeds, we are breaking down barriers and ensuring that digital inclusion is a reality for everyone in Leeds. If you want to do more please reach out to Leeds Community Foundation as you can donate directly to them by becoming a member, contact Kirsty Mackinnon for more info!
