Liberty Global has joined 16 other major investors in Europe to urge EU institutions to integrate competitiveness as a cornerstone of the EU's policy agenda. The call to action came in a joint letter published with the American Chamber of Commerce to the European Union (AmCham EU) - which speaks on behalf of American businesses in Europe - in the run-up to next month's hearings of the Commissioners-designate. It follows the publication of the #Draghi Report and the Political Guidelines set by Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, which signalled that competitiveness is now a key concern for policymakers. Among the challenges which need to be addressed by the incoming Commission, AmCham EU's Executive Council highlighted: ❕ Regulatory complexity and burden ❕ Approach to the green and clean transition ❕ Digital transition and skills shortage ❕ Access to funding and investment incentives ❕ The rise of protectionism Read more here ➡ https://lnkd.in/eig_4NCx #EU #EUcompetitiveness #AmChamEU

Historically, women have been underrepresented in ICT professions. Whilst there has been some progress recently, we must continue to create environments where talented women are retained, propelled, and ultimately thrive. Role modelling, mentorship, and coaching are effective strategies. These tools offer guidance, support, information, and networking opportunities, helping women navigate complex professional environments. Companies with higher gender representation at board level are 27% more likely to financially outperform those with lower representation. This highlights the importance of #diversity and #inclusion at all levels - let's work together to encourage more of such in the ICT sector. Our VP Public Policy, Eke Vermeer, featured in a Euractiv Op-Ed on this topic & wider connectivity sector issues last month - take a look here: https://lnkd.in/e-iT7Yfe

A raft of insights into the AI policy & regulatory landscape came from our “Wired for AI” panel event in Brussels this week. Take a look at the key takeaways and find the link to the full report here ⬇️
In Europe, AI regulation not only protects consumers but also empowers businesses to adopt the technology within a clear and secure framework, enabling innovation to flourish beyond just the major players. This was the key takeaway from our panel event held this week at The Nine, Brussels. Moderated by Javier Espinoza from the Financial Times, panelists included Nirali Patel, VP AI and Data Strategy at Liberty Global, Ansgar Koene, Global AI Ethics and Regulatory Leader at EY, and Hungarian MEP Katalin Cseh from ReNew Europe. They provided invaluable insights into the diverse challenges and opportunities in AI, from #regulation and #ethics to #innovation and #sustainability. Key discussion points included: 💡 AI and Copyright: If AI mimics your voice, who owns the resulting audio? Is it you, the creator of the soundbite, or the AI system? The AI Act aims to navigate these issues, ensuring clear guidelines and protections for all parties involved in AI-generated works, but frameworks are still evolving. 💡 Sustainability and Smaller Language Models (SLMs): Smaller models require less computational power and resources, leading to lower energy consumption and carbon footprints. By optimizing data processing and storage, SLMs can support environmentally-friendly AI practices. 💡 Human Bias in AI: The EU AI Act emphasizes the importance of mitigating human biases in AI systems and advocates for built-in bias detection and correction mechanisms, ensuring that AI applications are fair, transparent, and aligned with ethical standards. It was an insightful afternoon filled with rich discussions and forward-thinking perspectives. Read our ‘Wired for AI’ report here: https://bit.ly/3W96lwf
